Play chess at the NarzWarz forum!
Hi all. Just wanted to issue an invite to everyone to my new forums : www.narzwarz.com/forum

I notice Apolyton does not have a forum for chess so if anyone wants to play correspondence chess (i.e. : I post my move, you post yours), come to the chess section of my forum and start one up (or join one).

- Narz

BTW, NarzWarz itself (the game) is not fully functional yet, it should be ready within a month, when it is "released" I'm sure you'll find it to be the best game since the original Civ.

Ay caramba, change the colors, man. It's really not comfortable looking at the forum index...

There are different forum themes you can choose from. The forum is really quite advanced.

Good forum (not fora). Need's some new members, though. Therefore, a bump.

Thanks. Thats why I am recruiting here, most of the current members are from the forum I frequent the most (CivFanatics Center) and they already have a forum for chess. So I figured I'd ask around here in case there were any players among you.

Feel free to just sign up and post a move (1.e4, Nf3, whatever you're into), someone will reply I promise.

I think if anyone wanted to play chess they could have a thread here in other games. Not to discourage people from Narz's forum, go anyway, wear your sunglasses, and await this upcoming masterpiece.

I know, I'm familiar with XMB, I used Partagium Beta and Magic Lantern in the past.

Yeah, I like XMB, I like the Stats feature. I'm just looking forward to the day when I'm not "poster of the day".

By the way, is the forum theme really so disconcerting? I think it sets a mood but perhaps I will change it to something more... generic. Perhaps gray and white with blue links nah.. something else.

Try darker red in the tables.

Hm, ever tried the portal addition for XMB? I think that'd make the site and forum a more integrated entity.

It's very easy to install/hack, and it's easy to maintain as well (if they haven't changed the module-structure Eregi built in the original portal hack).

Here's an example of an XMB portal:

g3 is viable, but e4 openings should be the first you try as white, until you have played for a while.

I would pick e2-e4 over g2-g3 anytime!

Narz,

We were a couple of Apolytoners who played chess regularly (until about a year ago?). IIRC it was here in the Other Games forum that we set up the games.

You might want to PM these guys to lure them into your forum: Smash, Julius Brenzaida, kcbob, Ken Hinds.

Julius is the undisputed champ. We couldn't even draw against him!

Tuomerehu, I am looking into that problem. Does anyone else get that message ("Column count doesn't match value count at row 1") when trying to register? Also, did you try both Netscape and I.E. (not like you should have to do this but I'm just curious, perhaps its a browser problem).

Anyway, I mentioned it on the XMB Help Forum so hopefully I will soon understand why that happens for some people and be able to resolve the problem.

Let me know if you are able to successfully register and what you did differently for it to work. Thanks!

Not a bad idea. I know Smash, he plays in the CFC forum also. I will PM the other guys, thanks!

Note : Having Problems
Yep, I'm getting the same damn messege : "Column count doesn't match value count at row 1" with either I.E. or Netscape, don't know why this is. Hopefully I will get an answer soon...

Sorry to anyone who filled out their form and couldn't register...

I first thought that I hadn't filled all necessary parts of the registeration page, but that didn't seem to be the case...

I know him too, I've played against him. I lost, and that happens quite frequently, to put it blunt

To tell the truth openings don't matter that much for beginners and even intermediate players, because it takes a tremendous amount of skill to retain any opening advantage throughout a game and carry it to its fullest potential.

But the type of positions that come from e4 are indisputably the type of positions you should master first. g3 and Nf3 type openings are perfectly playable (though perhaps you lose some of your possible opening advantage) but they are more positional in nature, and lead to a completely different style of game to e4.
