Bring the jobs back home

As in many countries, American-branded consumer goods and services such as McDonald's, Pizza Hut, KFC, Coke and Pepsi often become the subject of protests by Muslims at times of unpopular actions by the United States.

The bottler of Coca Cola in southern Thailand yesterday closed its warehouse in Yala, effectively halting the sales of the popular soft drink brand the province where anti-American sentiment has been picking up.

Coca Cola has become the first known victim of local opponents, mainly Thai Muslims, to the US-led war in Iraq and American interests in the country.

Coca Cola has seven plants nationwide in Thailand, providing direct employment to more than 11,000 Thais. It said it had invested 1.6 billion baht over the last five years in the country.

Well, if we have the right to boycott French products, then I suppose Muslims have the right to boycott American products.

So what's your point? There won't be any jobs to bring home if no one is buying the products. And that's usually what happens in a boycott afterall.

Why the sarcastic face boann?

I'm not at all surprised why American products would be boycotted.

From the history files...

...and after the war in Iraq was over, George Bush attacked Thailand.

those plants serve overseas. Those jobs aren't feasible for inside the U.S.

If those dumbasses want to sabatage their own countries- let them.

I agree, MRT.

This is ridiculous. Working at a McDonald's does not in any way obligate someone to be in any way "loyal" to the United States.

You are somehow associating working for an American company with being loyal to American interests.

I don't think they care whether they serve Big Macs or Royales with Cheese. They have no choice but to work there.

Why the sudden urge to support giant companies. Just because they provide jobs?

Some CEO's earn countless millions while their employees (who work their souls out) are paid meagre wages.

boann, are you sure you're on planet earth?!

Puh-leeeze. Let's remember that a lot of those jobs are there to begin with because American corporations would prefer to give them to cheap foreign labor than to pay our own citizens a living wage. Bring the jobs back home? Sounds good to me; just don't expect much support from corporate America.

Good, I say boycott them...

Invest money over there? How about capitalize and overtake, which is what Coke, McDonalds, etc do.

the goverment should not force the businesses to pay more.

You damn commies!!

If they don't like it they should organize into a union. I do support unions.

This system isn't broke. So don't fix it!

Sorry, but did it occur to you that the purpose of those businesses isn't to give those people "money and jobs" but to sell American products into their marketplaces?

It is about money and jobs. Money coming back here from foreign companies, and American jobs related to supporting the US exports.

If the US wants to pull out of world markets, I'm sure the rest of the world would adapt and take up the slack.

Sure it's amecian money - Coca Cola dosn't pay tax in Denmark

That's it why I don't buy Coca Cola products at all - actually I try to avoid products from many of the great multinational companies.

Why? Because most manipulate with income/expenses between their national factories/companies. I call it fraud - unfortunately its legal . Yet.

Yep. They claim, that they are not making any money by selling Coca Cola in Denmark.

They buy some of the indigrenses from other Coca Cola companies/factories and pay a very high price for this stuff - they also pay something for the right to use the brand to the "mothercompany" and then...... No surplus to pay tax of.

Several other multinational companies does the very same - money are directed to daughtercompanies placed in countries with a very-very little tax% or to their mothercompany.
