Conforting Music in times of War

Hola,

Being such dark times as these are, I was wondering if some of you have taken into listening certain particular songs or albums (and please don't mention "Killing an Arab" by the Cure).

Well, my two choices for albums have been "Sandinista!" by The Clash and "War" by U2. Both have some pretty good anti-war lyrics and the songs rock, even though they were written during the Cold War, I think the feelings behind them are applicable today.

Rancid's "Life Won't Wait" also comes to mind...

BTW

I wonder if pilots in the gulf still listen to "Rock The Casbah" before a sortie like they did in gulf war I.

Funniest thing I remember out of WTC incident was shortly after everyone's shock wore off, my suitemate played out loud REM's song. While it was unrealistic, it was kinda appropriate.

Yep you got a point there, but there is many different kinds of music that can have the same effect

Oh Fortuna starts out pretty heavy, but after that it has lost its greatness a bit (though the song is still just as pleasant to hear you know!) in my opinion!

and of course what is it about Wagner he seems plugged into the whole vainglorious aspect of war...

stukas strafing refugees....I bet the pilots got pretty tired of listening to it every night though.

Oh, and AFN (american forces Korea) is STILL playing 'Bombs Over Baghdad' every other request.
