Non-confrontational war thread: Why is "Old Europe" refered to as "Old Eu
*Not a pro or anti-war thread*

Surely the Europe of old is warmongering and perfectly willing to ***** on anyone who isn't white? How is opposing the war "Old Europe"?

*This isn't meant to imply that pro-war individuals are warmongering of willing to **** on non-whites

Old Europe is referred to as Old Europe because Rumsfeld claims it to be Old Europe. Naturally other aggressive pro-war Apolytonners have taken over that ridiculous term.

Germany + France were the core of the creation and sustenance of the EU for half a century. "New Europe" suggests a diminishment of that core. Rumsfeld meant something very precise with his comment.

Well since Germany and France are most in favour of further European cooperation, I can't see how they are no longer the core of the EU.

Rumsfield just wanted to coin a term to seperate friend from foe.

I'm surprised that he managed to refrain from just calling them terrorists.

I didn't say they were no longer the core.

But their power relative to the rest of the EU is diminishing and there are likely to be successful coalitions against them in the EU in the future on some items.

Rumsfield came up with a catchy phrase. We are stuck with it now. DanS, I think, explains the meaning pretty well.

I think it goes further than what DanS said: "Old Europe" is old cause they don't back the new and revolutionary vision of the US for the future. New Europe, through its support for the US, does.

Old Europe is called Old Europe because they have white hair, arthritis, dementia and are cranky towards youngsters.

GePap, I think DanS had the technical reasons correct, and I think you nailed the psychological ones.

By the way, Brits don't count as either Eurocoms or Old Europe. They are running a solid team over there.

And when do you think, say, Kiev will become the ultimate european destination?

20 years? 40? Hmm.....Maybe thats a bit too soon Sorry, but I highly doubt countries like LITHUANIA and UKRAINE and ESTONIA could in any way, shape, or form surpass countries like GERMANY and FRANCE.

It's an... interesting term, coined by a man... bereft of a clue about diplomacy.

It reminds me of diplomacy in Demo Games where people shoot off their mouths in whatever bellicose ways that strike them at the moment.

UK is not a part of Eurocom land.

They are smart enough to keep their distance.
