Wife chops off fingers to stop TV 'war addict' husband
Quote:

March 25 2003, 3:11 PM

The wife of a Gulf War addict in China cut off her finger to stop him from watching TV news about the conflict all day long, a news report said today.

The 45-year-old woman from Nanjing in Jiangsu Province took the drastic step after quarrelling with her husband about his TV addiction since the war began last week, the Hong Kong edition of the official China Daily reported.

She cut off the middle finger of her left hand with a kitchen knife to get his attention because their 15-year-old daughter could not concentrate on studying for upcoming exams with the TV constantly on.

The shocked husband then turned off the TV and took her to hospital, said the newspaper report.

One thing you need to understand about students going to college in China, it's SCARY competitive. Ever since China started opening up to western ways, it's been a mad-dash for many parents to get their children access to better education (re:college). In a country of 1.2 billion or so, space is limited. The yearly entrance exams are a major event in a family's life.

This women's psychotic self-inflicted wound is indicative of the stress many families feel...taken to an absurd extreme. Sad, really.

So many of these bizarre things are reported out of China. I suppose when you have 1 billion people your pool of lunatics is larger.

Probably only for a few days a month. She'll probably have no fingers by Christmas unless they wrap up the war quickly.

Cultural difference. Since the ancient times a number of the emperor's ministers attempted to get him to listen to some advice by killing themselves.

I wonder how that would work?:

Minister: I am so frustrated at my emperor not listening to reason that I am going to kill myself *ahhhhh...*

Emperor: And he was such a good minister. I think I will invite him in to listen to his advice now -- oh wait he's dead.

sometimes I wonder if I'm watching too much coverage.

The problem is the crappy U.S. networks have terrible coverage during the day time. They have all these stupid talking heads. I don't want to hear the opinion of some sorry advisor. Even the retired military guys are useless. They are telling me stuff I already know.

I want live coverage from the battlefield

The only time they seem to do that is late at night (afternoon Iraq time). I was up till 4 in the morning last night watching coverage.

U arent too far off... Women are inferiot to men. No matter how mcuh thw wife begged, Im guessing the men asserted his dominance over her by refusing to listen to her. So Im guessing she cut off her finger to show just how much she wanted him to turn it off..

It would be so great if it worked in here. I'd need thousand fingers just so that I can have it my way.

EDIT: I cant spiel I am sofa king we todd it..... Yeah!
