Invalid Ship Design
Before I get slammed for a repetitive post. I spent the last hour looking for info on this subject. I know I read about it somewhere but couldn't find it.
Does ANYONE has any tips on dealing with this frustrating error message WHEN BUILDING STARSHIPS.
I have the tech
I have Autobuild off
I have atleast a couple of planets capable of building it
I have classified it (Cruiser, STARSHIP, LD Attack)
I have all the required tabs entered (weapons, etc)
I have built within the size limits
I name it (numbers, names, doesn't matter)
I have not missed anthing & all clasifications are congruent
I save
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!INVALID DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THIS. Once in a long while IT GOES THRU. WHY THEN AND NOT NOW
I can build updated outposts, colonies, systemships and orbitals. Am I missing something

Just a guess (at work now and no game to look at) but do you have too much stuff on the ship?

perhaps you dont have system engines and warp engines on it--i usually get that when i forget to add but sets of engines on my ships. If its a star ship you need both-system ships only need the one engine.

That's just it! The size limits are good, the engines are congruent with a starship. I cannot figure what I'm doing that the game doesn't like. And it doesn tell me what it doesn't like, or send me to the flagged item that's causing the conflict. That IS a valid criticism of MOO3 game design

OK I just read your post again. Is that correct? You need both types of engines in a starship?!!

I have noticed a similar problem.
I had my design completed, then I decided to double-check the defense tab, to make sure I had the right armor and shield generator. When I went back out the 'confirm design' button was grey.
Anyway, different issue I realize... But my solution was to add a component and then take it off. And it fixed my issue.
The only time I've had an issue with invalid design was when I took off my life support(accidentally) on a starship. I couldnt figure it out, so I autobuilt one and the list got longer... I felt dumb.
How about starting with an autobuilt ship and editing it. Thats usually what I do and I rarely run into problems.

You do indeed need both types for starships.

The twothings to check for invalid design are the space and the drives.
Look at the space numbers and if they are red, you have too much. If not, then you need both types of drives for starships,

I had this problem too, and yes it sucks how the game doesn't tell you what is wrong with your design.
A somewhat lazy mans workaround (not totally lazy-that would be full autobuild) is to click autobuild on the ship you want. Then, trust the game to put the best armor, shields and engines etc on the ship. Remove all the weapons and use this space to outfit it with weapons of your choosing.
I know this is a poor solution in the long run. I also know it won't allow you to specify exactly the right engine for your ship (I assume you would always use the best shields and armor) but it works decently well and saves a good amount of pain.

for star ships you need both sets of engines -system and warp
for system ships you only need 1 engine type being the system engines.
This is probably the main reason you are getting invalid ship design--if you have enough space left over.
