I love sauna's!
I visit it slightly less than once per two weeks.

Mostly with friends, and sometimes with my wife.

It's a great experience. Just take your time.
Take a 15 minute sauna, cold shower, relax outside (no matter how the weather is)

that feeling is great!!

And than relax with a nice comic or a book for 30 minutes. It's a great way to relax and to remove all the stress from your body.

When I'll visit sweden this vacation I'll use the sauna in our vacation-house for sure once per 2 days

Poll for Finns - what is the highest temperature that you'll take your sauna up to, in Celsius?

monolithh94, something around 110 and 120 Celsius. But I wasn't there for long it was too hot.

My perferred temperature is about 85 to 90 Celsius though. It's about perfect for my likings.

Cybershy, yes, the best part is after when you relax and do your thing. But you must not be in a hurry, or have to go to work or something, you must have time to just chill and relax, it's a must. Or else it's an insult.
It's good to be outside, eat something light, have a beer or two with your buddies and you must not dress up. Only after. You can have a towel around your waist though.

Of course it's even better if you can swim after sauna. It feels soooo good. I prefer lakes, it's nice to jump in and swim a little. But pool will do the job if there are no lakes around.

Well, I don't see what could possibly be perverted in a bunch of men sweating naked in close proximity to each other and possibly spanking each other with birch twigs.

You're just afraid of sweaty nutsacks.

And as if the promised land of all-male boarding schools is one to talk about wrongness...

Serb, yeah, cold beer is great too after that! It's like ultimate drinking experience, you're relaxed and perceptive to your body, so drinking beer is nice then. It's also a bit of a tradition that if you're drinking with your buddies in a house, at some point everyone goes to sauna. It's nice, then you have mixed sauna, so the ladies are there sometimes too.
When I was with my former class in a party, everyone went to sauna at the same time (big sauna), and there were few hot chicks with nice boobs, so it was very rewarding experience to see the at last .

I had the same experience during last weekend.
Sauna without girls and beer is a bit boring, but still ok.
Those guys who says that "sauna- " just don't understand a thing about it.

Amen, Brother Serb!

The BEST thing is the hottest bearable sauna, a hole in an ice-cevered lake and cold cold vodka afterwards!

"monolithh94, something around 110 and 120 Celsius"

I keep telling people that I've had saunas around that temperature but they don't believe me!!! I personally like the temperature RIGHT at 110 - that's my sweet spot.

Where I was staying, we'd run out of the sauna and jump into the cool, fresh finnish seaside.

Stefu - you're absolutely right to point out the hypocrisy of the boarding school nation!

I used to go to a sauna when I went swimming in this frickin cold pool in Maine. I'd jump out of freezing pool get really hot in the sauna and then jump back into the pool. It was great! Of course as I grew older I found I could get the same rush from drinking smoking and sex without the weirdness of sweaty old men watching me.

I use the sauna fairly regularly, but my grandfather gets up about 8 times a night to use it.

When I was in University in Turkku, we had a Swedish-Finnish championship in sauna. The one who could stay inside for the longest time was the winner. Everone left after 15-20 minutes, except 2 guys, one from each country, who decided to stay and take the fight. Both where throwing water at the stove every other minute and telling each other "You are out!" After 45 minutes or so, the Swedish guy saw a small red spot on the white tile floor. He could not understand how the spot could grow larger and larger, until he realised it was blood from his own nose. He decided it was finally time to give up. OK, who expected a Swede to win over a Finn in a Sauna contest anyway? The Finnish guy won by 0.5 seconds, as he followed the Swede in his footsteps out of the hot hell. Both guys were standing for an hour in the ice cool shower to come back to earth, cursing and breathing heavily. All of us are still close friends, and we meet once every second year or so.

No, common, you can take it!

It's about the only words I know in Finnish! After all, I only lived there for 2 years, and I had legal rights to speak Swedish when I was there.

Answer to above question (I'm semi-finn by university education and 1/8 Finn by blood line):

I turn my sauna to 85 degrees Celsius. Yeah, right, chicken Swede, but I don't need more than that!
