Ask - and ye shall be answered - see SSC thread.

Although the Great Library is in a somewhat ramshackle state at the moment it holds much wisdom

Yeah you need more specific problems like in the SSC thread........we aren't just spontaneously going to start spouting pearls of wisdom.

Dr,
I mean that the colour of your new avatar might induce some people to think you are a greenie
( of course)

Well, I like the look of your new avatar.
The main colour of the avatar is green on my computer.
Then 'green' makes me think of 'greenie', which makes me think of 'one who has not so many pearls of wisdom to spout'.
(though I know perfectly well that you are not a greenie at all ).

Gotcha. You were too subtle for me. Here a greenie is one who is very friendly to the environment.

The avatar is fan art for a character from Warcraft 3........it caught my eye on a site and I thought it would make a good avatar.

Then you know the blademaster.......he is a strong cunning melee hero. In MP I always use Farseer + BM, or sometimes BM then Farseer.

Rick, we are a talkative bunch because we all love to

Here's a tip. Trade lots. Build lots of caravans and deliver them. That's the #1 tip I picked up here, way back when.

If you already know that, then you might want to know a couple of nuances... each time you deliver a caravan, you get a number of beakers in the science box, equal to the cash bonus. Exception: you can't fill more than 2/3 of the box with a single caravan delivery.

On topic, is my middle name

I thought your middle name was year.

My tip is to divide the game into a series of objectives (technologies, wonders, conquest, whatever) and work towards them. It's very easy to get distracted and end up trying to do a number of things, but not very well.

Not quite true - you always get the same beaker increas as you do gold for a trade, but the gold for a trade delivery is capped by 2/3 of the total cost of your current tech.

Oh, so caravans are useful for something other than wonder-forcing? I'll be damned; I thought they were just a poor man's capitalization.

*picks jaw off the floor*

Caravans are what makes Deity level easy - unless you're the ICS-and-Crusader-rush type.

Trade is an extremely powerful force in civ. And these days, due to the mind-boggling research of a few clearly insane individuals (sorry Samson and Solo ) you can use it to even deadlier effect.

This thread pretty much explains Rick's behavior on the #apolyton IRC channel the other day.

Well, basically he was impatient and as no one responded within 1-2 minutes, he decided "to dot" the channel.
