I can picture it... that's the stuff games are made of

I had problems first too, but it was not because of language problems - I just did not know how to handle cities. I built them in nearly every square... quite a dumb thing to do, as I learned when I don't know which civ attacked me and took city after city. But I somehow managed to survive.

I remember telling myself that this was a very hard game

When I finally got the knack, the magic became clear, and I could not be stopped anymore. I even printed stat sheets that I filled out every 200 years or so, containing demographics and such - I then compared my games turn for turn, it was very interesting.

At the university, I found out that I had already learned all the economic rules they teached us by playing civ - without even knowing it...

When the keayboard contrals are disabled and you need to move the mouse to the edge of the icon (we tried clicking on the icons and on the tiles next to the icons, but then saw that the pointer changed while we moved over tghe edge. And let's just say I wasn't very used to computers back then)

Once we first got everything to work (after being destroyed by the barrbarians some times) we set out an an expedition tio conquest the evil red once and find out where they come from but all we found were other civs. I think we actually explored the entire map and no trace of the barbarians. (That was when we relized they were special)

Stop ranting, Roggan. It won't help anyone. You've already hijacked this thread once,.

...and the amount of over-sized irrelevant images you have put in this thread, and others, is starting to get silly.

I also suggest you try reading some of the guidlines here:

And you're right! Luckily this is not one of my games - found this in the civ1 section of poly

I've started a new civ1 game this weekend - to my surprise, the dos version works well with Win XP... If anyone's inetrested, there are a few abandonware sites where you can get the game.

This is where I got mine:
