It's an easy trick for moronic american "nationalists" the likes of Drake (sorry Drake - just an example).

And they buy it. It's all PR and it is very easy to be PR with those sort of people I described. You win them in a sec. It's the "we need a friend" syndrome of some of the americans.

I don't think they like having the world against them so the slighest of compliment means the world to them.

Of course politics is far more complicated than that.

Schroeder got what he wanted without losing anything of substance and he's now just recapturing whatever unsubstantial he lost in the US public opinion.

War is still not justified. Schroeder apologized for calling Bush a moron and not for opposing war.

He also stated that he is glad that Saddam is no longer in power, but that does not mean he approves of US intervention.

That was more of a joke what I said about Sweden. Although as a relative... standard Sweden is far away from most geopolitical considerations which means it can afford to take stances based on clear ethics many times.

But from what you say it followed a road which has been taken by quite a few.
