Railroad Tycoon 3
The current issue of Computer Games No. 150, May 2003 has an 8 page story about Railroad Tycoon 3.
The new game will be 3 D. In this version there will be 3D building that can be built by the player. The player will also be allowed to buy and place some industries.
The game will be out sometime next year, 2004.
I started this thread in Other Game also. Just though more people will see it here. Please give it a few days before moving it.

It won't get a few days, but thanks for the heads-up.

I really wish Transport Tycoon would get a face-lift... *cough* MOO3 *cough*...ok, maybe not just cosmetic graphical changes. Railroad Tycoon II never really interested me as much as it's predecessor, though I do have it and may get around to getting the X-pack one of these days...

I loved RR Tycoon I but my friends all told my RRT 2 sucked so I never bought it. Hopely, #3 won't be crap like some other third editions *cough* *Civ3* *Cough*.

Never, never listen to a friend. Get the demo and try it for yourself, If you don't like it, that Ok, but at lease it will be you that did not like it for some reason and not some other telling you, it's no good.

Could we write Chris somehow? I would love to see Transport Tycoon again.
I can play Transport without sound on my P-3 600, but would like to play it with sound. When my son get his computer, he will return my P-1 and then I can play it with sound.
I have all version of RRT. With the Platinum version, there are so many maps, you can play almost any part of the world. I keep RRT2 on my computer all the time.

RRT 2 does suck, if you are a fan of the original. Looks like the third reincarnation will be closer to the original, except that it's in 3D. IMO, PopTop took enough flak for RRT 2 that they made the new version closer to the first one.

If you don't like the game fine, but I don't want to hear it.
Thank you

I liked both the original and RRTII.

I'd like a random map generator like Civ has, though. More replayability that way.

Good to hear they're continuing the series.

I have spent ungodly amounts of time playing RRT 1. I used to play in school in IT classes . Ahh... those were the days.
I liked RRT 2 too. I think it had great graphics and all the gameplay additions were balanced. I'm somewhat concerned with that 3D thing though RRT 2 graphics were awesome, how can they improve on that.

Ive never heard of these games before, but I checked out the screenies for RRT 2, and I gotta say, this game looks cool. Cooler then Civ3.

About a year ago, some company made a game (Don't remember the name), which was like RRT, but it was 3D... and I've only got one thing to say: You're right, in being concerned... It looked worse than RRT2, and required a much faster computer... and it wasn't even fun...

But the gameplay isn't...

In the late game, you have train crashes every 10 seconds, even though you just replaced ALL trains with the newest/best model...

And the fact, that you have to go through the editor, to play a game, with the enemies you'd like to play against (on the map, you'd like to play on), only makes it worse...

It's much like SimCity. By the time you've mastered it, the 'personality' fades, and along it all the interest to play it.

This can be tried to counter with scenarios

Actually it's the scenarios that kills the game...

Why don't they have "Free play" in RRT games?

It's not so much the scenarios themselves, but the fact that that was the only way to play, and the rather arbitrary win conditions. The ones that depended on personal wealth irritated me. I wanted to build a railroad, damnit!
