What's on your bookshelf?
If you can, take a picture of it and/or give us a rundown of what's on it, or at least the gist of it.

Attached is a picture of my bookshelf (or at least the top two shelves, since the bottom shelf has books I haven't read in like...12 years and will eventually be displaced by more "interesting technical manuals" ). Also have a whole ton of textbooks I don't use very often (psychology, economics, history, philosophy of logic, linear algebra, calculus, discrete mathematics, etc) in boxes in the basement so they don't take up space. But anyway:

From left-to-right, top-to-bottom:
Red Hat Linux 6 Unleashed
A Practical Guide to Solaris
Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days
The Complete Reference: C++
The Complete Reference: Java 2
Pascal Programming and Problem Solving
Practical Visual C++ 6
Practical Visual Basic 6
Teach Yourself PHP4 in 24 Hours
Java by Dissection
Fundamentals of Object-Oriented Design in UML
Teach Yourself Java 2 in 24 Hours
Fundamentals of Computing With C++
Data Structures with C++
Structured FORTRAN with WATFIV-S and WATFOR-11S (1976)
Calculus, Complex Numbers, and Polar Coordinates (1972)
Vectors, Matrices, and Algebraic Structures (1972)
Relations, Transformations, and Statistics (1972)
Technical Communications
Special Effects Programming with DirectX (8.0)
SPARC Architecture, Assembly Language Programming, and C
Digital Design (circuit design)
Introduction to Automata Theory, Languages, and Computation
Software Engineering: A Practitioner's Approach
Extreme Programming Explained
Planning Extreme Programming
UML Distilled
Introduction to Algorithms (Second Edition)
Data Structures and Algorithms in Java
Algorithms in Java (parts 1-4)

Fun stuff!

All the bookshlef in our house have double lines of books, unless the books are in crates, or in one of at least half a dozen large book boxes in storage, so it would take too long to write down what was asked.

Man, what a boring bookshelf

Imagine 16 shelves of books (one taken by CD's and Tapes), all but 2 witha double row of books, with extra books stuffed above these, each shelf holding an average of 50-60 pieces (for a total of about 900-1000 books, magazines). 4 shelf at elast are novels of all types, several mroe filled with history and political books, and some cookbooks.

There.

I got books laying around everywhere... but where my lamp is, is where most of them are:

Executive Orders - Tom Clancy
See No Evil - Robert Baer
Ronald Reagan (American Life) - Autobiography (Reagan)
The Book of Honor: Covert Lives and Classified Deaths At the CIA - Ted Gup
Art of War - Sun Tzu

I don't do much (or any, to be more precise) reading aside from the technical stuff. And lots of the technical stuff is online now.

Most of my computer books are in the basement or the other study. There's only so much good that one can draw out of Visual Basic 4 Unleashed.

Why would I need to own it? After all, I had written it myself on this very computer.

Oh geez - thousands.

When I moved from Vancouver to Toronto last year I had the pleasure of packing them all, so I know that I have way too many. Many are still in boxes, storage, etc.

I go through books like water. I also have a compulsion to buy and read everything of an author or series that I get into. For example, I have 73 Star Wars novels.

I should also mention: Bily Wilder: American Film Realist, and a Stanley Kubrick reader, plus a book on dadaism and modern art. A really good one, too.

Depends what bookshelf we're talking about here. I will go with the one that has the books I actually enjoy on them:

THE AGE OF REASON (Thomas Paine)
1984 (George Orwell)
BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS (Kurt Vonnegut... borrowed)
THE MASKS OF GOD: OCCIDENTAL MYTHOLOGY (Joseph Campbell)
THE POWER OF MYTH (Joseph Campbell)
THE INNER SECRETS OF OUTER SPACE (Joseph Campbell)
ANDROMEDA STRAIN (Michael Crichton... the only book of his I actually like)
KING RAT (James Clavell)
BOURNE IDENTIY (Robery Ludlum... tasty pulp)
EUROPE: A BRIEF HISTORY (George A. Rothrock)
THE PHILOSOPHY OF SCHOPENAUER
UTILITARIANISM (J.S. Mill)
THE NAZARENE (Sholem Asch)

*************

Yes, I know I am pitifully undercultured.

Don't shame me with your gigantic bookcases!

One of these days, I'm going to set up a card catalogue.

Yes, I have that many books.

I've got 25 shelves of books, 23 if we consolidated them all... and I consider our collection to be rather small. Laura and I constantly recycle books as we read them, meaning that we have to get rid of books periodically as they pile up.

My shelves are divided in to 2 sections: Non-fiction and fiction. With a few exceptions, fiction books are alphabetized by author and then by title/series (I'll ignore the title if the book is part of a series - then I'll put it in the series order). My non-fiction shelves are divided into categories (Biography/business/entertainment/history/etc), then within the categories author/title alphabetizing takes over again.
