The Matrix Reloaded Preview
http://www.hometheaterforum.com/sneak/sneak.html

Quote:
What is the Matrix? That's a question that Thomas Anderson (aka Neo) a web-hacker has been asking himself for a long time. One evening a knock comes at his door and he follows a white rabbit, takes a blue pill, and is reborn into a world in which human beings live their daily lives, without any knowledge of their false existence. Some rebel humans who have discovered this horror, recruit the computer hacker hoping that he will be "the one" to rescue the world from this cyber-slavery.

Slick, engrossing, and full of mind-blowing effects and action, there is no argument that The Matrix is one of the greatest science-fiction classics of all time. Part of that film's success was an original concept, a well-written storyline, unmatched special effects, and action sequences that just blew us out of our chairs. It isn't a far stretch to say that with its combination of deep-rooted messages, philosophies and fantasies, The Matrix is the Star Wars of our generation.

The question is, how do you take a sci-fi masterpiece like The Matrix and successfully expand its story through two sequels? The answer is, you can't. In the same way George Lucas quickly lost his vision with Star Wars, so have the Wachowski brothers with their vision of The Matrix. On May 15th 2003, one of the most eagerly awaited sequels, The Matrix Reloaded, opens at theaters for millions of fans that have been salvating over watching how far the rabbit hole can go this time. I am deeply afraid that many are going to walk away as dazed and confused as Alice must have been after the Mad Tea Party.
well??? ... there is a bit more of a story on the link but well, seems that the sequel couldn't top the original again...

Who knows?

The only thing I found lame in the matrix is the rather shallow characters, and especially the lame "lady kisses the hero and he comes to life" in the end. That was just silly.

Other than that, it is indeed a classic

I just wanna see all those Agent Smiths

Surprised to see me Mr.Anderson ?

I agree the ending on the first was really naff, nearly puked after such a good film and it goes to such a mushy twist to bring him back to life, life flashing before his eyes and he realises he can't die in there or some little revelation in his head ... anything ! would have been better

I liked Matrix, but for me it was no milestone. A good movie without doubt, but the "deep-rooted messages, philosophies and fantasies" didnīt impress me much.

So Iīll of course see to part II, but I donīt hold my breath...

Btw, the ideas and philosophies expressed in it are by no way new to me - I've thought about it.

They are also not completely new in fiction iirc, and in philosophy especially.

Agathon - you have the stage.

Reloaded is obviously going to end in a confusing cliffhanger, so that people *must* go and watch Revolutions (it's coming later this year, isn't it?). What comes to the story dragging, well, um, it's an action flick, right? It seems that they are trying to take a shot at a more of an epic story than a story on an emotional level. I don't see this as a problem if they pull it off well.

And of course it's in danger of being a letdown, the hype has just been too massive.

Yes - they have made no secret of this. The two are more accurately described as one movie in two parts.

I see. Hm, then again, perhaps they weren't describing just the ending with the sentence "I am deeply afraid that many are going to walk away as dazed and confused as Alice must have been after the Mad Tea Party", maybe they meant the entire film.

Sequels are almost never better then the original (the major exception was the Empire Strikes back). Still I really want to see this movie.

Another one is Inidana Jones - Temple of Doom that was at least as good as the original if not better

Toy Story 2 and Godfather: Part Two were both better than the originals also IMHO.

The latest trailer for this is just awesome. I eagerly anticipate this and feel it just might be better than the first one.

Allegendly Reloaded is supposed to be like "an ongoing war ".

It will be like a snapshot from a war that is happening right there.

So lots more action etc.

I agree it will be difficult to top the Matrix. It had one of the most solid polts in SF.
Also it applied into the modern society loneliness factor and its scenario flattered geeks, driving up ticket sales from them too.

It also had rising intensity and was well balanecd. Not to mention the brilliant pre - movie campaign and the "big mystery" that was waiting to be discovered.

So I think it'll be pretty hard to topple that. It was a really original idea very well implemented.

Plus they snuck in some cool references in Matrix I. I liked seeing Jean Baudrillard's "Simulacrum et Simulacra" show up at one point. Nice in joke
