Why do they have so long a delay?
Why is there always such a long delay between the American and European patches? I'd think they would just have to translate a few things. In fact, they shouldn't even have to do that, because IIRC they didn't add anything "new" in that regard to the latest patch.

There are some security issues, since EU's CD-check and US CD-check don't share the same technology. That's why the US patch isn't directly compatible with the UK version of the game.

But it's not really an important matter : v 1.14f was out in Europe very soon after the US version, so that European localizations could be actually playable in MP once on the shelves. Such a move was intended to avoid the bad publicity PtW got in the States, and to boost sales.

Now, Infogrames has nothing to win by putting a significant effort into following PtW. I'm pretty sure the staff charged to translate the patches is reduced to a dire minimum.
The key issue is Infogreed's disinterest.

Why are the CD checks different? What's the point?

Well, I still see no piont in why they can't release the UK English version within a week from the US version. Why do they have to wait for all localizations to get ready?

One POSSIBLE answer is to generate publicity. From a log of a recent Firaxis chat, it seems they are working on localized patches - but you have to remember that testing an MP patch takes a lot of testing.

Then, once you have found the bugs, you got to rewrite and test again. Plus there's the bugs already found in the 1.21 patch.

It's not as if they can do an overnight coding session and release in the morning - the chief complaint is that non-US PTW fans can't compete against the US players.

As I don't have PTW I really couldn't give a toss.

I just don't get it.
If, as far as I know, only difference between versions is copy-protection code, then why it takes so much times.

You just need to take USA version.
Remove cd-protection.
Add another once.

You surely don't need to make patch for scratch (that's only needed for MAC versions ).

It just looks that EU department is too lazy.

.

P.S.
Luckly I got USA version.

Canada also gets the US version.

So technically it is US/Canada.

Especially as they don't even bother translating anything into English, but leave it in American,

Really ? I didn't notice blatant American barbarisms in my UK version (yet, my original Civ3 is a US version).
