How challenging do you like your games?

Me. I like it fairly relaxed but enough to keep me on my toes.

The longer it takes to become apparent that I'll win, the better.

I prefer my games to be moderately challenging, because I often want to play causally without putting that many efforts in the game, yet I don't want ti to be a no-brainer either

Normal starts on diety. The only problem with diety games is that war is the only way to win.

Nomarl start on deity, but if it's an unpromising start position I'll quit early. I like to at least have a chance to win.

Very challenging. I like a game that will test me, but I ain't gonna play a deity game where I'm stuck with 5 tundra tiles.

As a builder, I prefer them moderately challenging. In fact they are often quite challenging during Ancient Age et quite relax at the end of the Industrial Age.

I want to win, but I don't want it to be apparent with map making that I'm going to win. My current game had absolutely no wars until early industrial.. sometimes I just like expanding.

In a way the game is more fun before you start playing on Diety and it turns into a pure wargame. I miss those monarch builder games.

Moderately challenging. Monarch level games meet this criteria. Emperor level games increase my anxiety level significantly which adds to my satifaction after the fact.

My favorite games are moderately challenging come from behind wins. Moderately challenging for me means - once map and opponents dictate what kind of goals I am going to set - I am able to work on my long term game strategy with a fair share, but generally normal, challenges and adjustments. I do not like playing a completely reactive game. Nor do I like starting out ahead, staying that way, and doing whatever I want unimpeded.

I often play relatively easy games for two reasons:

1) I suck.

and

2) It's more relaxing to play an easy game.

But when I want a more deep game, I crank it up a notch or two.

Sometimes I just crank the bar up to Diety and play my normal style, just to watch my arse getting kicked. I find that it helps my gameplay a lot.

I almost always play on Emperor, which usually gives me a fair fight (I win maybe 50% of the times, but I admit that I restart if my starting-position is really bad). I've never won on Deity, though - I guess I am not offensive enough in the Ancient times...

I mostly play regent and monarch levels. I think monarch maybe the perfect balance for me but kind of difficult sometimes. It depends on the map and its settings.

I prefer a middle way. Of course it would be boring to just walk over the competition but on the other hand it would be annoying to start the game every 10minutes because you got beaten.

A moderately challenging game is best. At first build up your country, get the economy on the road and afterwards clash with your enemies with huge armies and mega-battles WOHOO

Always playing on monarch and emperor level.

For me the game is always challenging in the first half of the game, whatever the level. If I survive by the development of nationalism, things are looking good.

It depends on my mood; sometimes I like a major challenge, at other times, just an average challenge. I don't want a cake walk, but I also don't want it to be almost impossible to win.

I have restarted on maps that I have considered too easy, but I don't usually restart a bad start location. A bad start location can make the game even more challenging.

I think, like most human beings, I'm not a big fan of being beaten thoroughly, although there are masochists out there. I don't want to know that winning is only a matter of time, but at the same time, I don't want to know early on that I don't have a prayer. I want to earn my victory.
