Because a major percentage (over 50%) of British exports go to the EU.
I've got figures somewheres...

I'll take my 5 weeks holiday over your efficiency any time.

Anyway I think the point was that if the UK left the EU jobs would be lost because of european problems.

3,420,000 jobs in Britain as a whole are dependent on exports to the EU, according to the OECD.

And they would stop would they. The UK is a huge economy I can't see europe suddenly wanting to stop trading with them.

If they pull out of the EU tariffs and trade barriers are going to fly up in retribution. Exports, imports and jobs are going to plummet.

Only in the short term.

There are of course other longer term problems that I would be concerned with.

They could pull out and negotiate a free trade agreement like Norway and and the Swiss.

At the same time yuo could sign up with an agreement with Nafta and the Aussies and maybe a couple of Asian countries and hey presto

The EU is Britain's largest trading partner and its largest source of economic and political clout. "Withdrawal from the European Union is economically desirable for Britain" is almost universally denounced as a 'nonsense argument'.
As for an Anglo empire, I despise the idea of forming an empire solely on the basis of ethnic origin.

Not hey presto. Britain would get very little out of rejoining EFTA (the European free trade agreement). It's not on the same level as the EU - it's very restricted, allowing free movement of only goods and capital.
As for agreements with NAFTA and the Aussies, if we could negotiate an opt-out clause from the Treaty of Rome I might think about it, but trade liberalisation (especially the American model) isn't always a good thing.

You have to adopt God Save the Queen as your Royal Anthem.

You can keep Stars and stuff for your Dominion Anthem.

Royal Assent, the Queen gets to pick 4 senators.

Oh, and you need a Governor-General, with Lieutenant-Generals in the individual Provinces.

What do they do? Absolutely nothing.

Except in Australia, where they support pedophile Priests.

Accession law would require each nation to take at least one member of the Royal family. No exceptions.

Americans, for some reason, are suckers for the Royals. We'd lap it up (I think. Maybe not - maybe they're only cool when they're YOUR problem).

Yeah, ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Furher!

We could do some "simple" things like moving to a common currency, joint citizenship, one armed forces with a joint, joint chiefs, common laws - for example, for patents, trademarks and copyrights, a common court system and one Supreme Court with members appointed by the respective states according to population, etc., etc., etc.

Piece of cake, right?

I think we've done very well out of europe and don't need to go back to the 'anglo empire' with thier slower rise in living standards.

Our income was stuck at around 2/3rds of the US level from the end of the second world war until we joined the EU, now it's 3/4trs.

Indeed Britian (and Ireland) are the only 'anglo' nations that have actually seen a faster underlying rise in living standards than the EU average.

As to the Royals and other nobles, their titles could be honorary only - but isn't that the way it is now anyway? Other than that, they should have no official governmental function. No being head of the Church. No House of Lords.

I actually think many in England would welcome this "reform."

Arguing for/against British withdrawal from the EU is definitely a possibility. Unit 4's all about the EU.

If GB, Austrailia, Canada, and NZ really wanted a say in US forign policy...how could they resist this offer?

I believe that the EU was formed to counter-balance US economic power. If they lose GB and this "Anglo-Empire" were to come into being then the EU as a whole could become beholden to Anglo economic policy.
