IS it me or do people get their priorities wrong.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/go/homepage/int...th/3019837.stm

There is an ongoing scandal in the UK about the retention of organs without people knowing. The thing is why do people care, there dead and the retention of organs might do some good. I've been trying for a few years now to be sympathetic to the people who come on TV and say its draedful that 30 years ago or even 3 months ago the kidney/heart/brain was removed from a dead relative. I just don't see their problem.

Yet the thing is no one seems to be prepared to say what I think in public for fear of being accused of being insensitive. There is an awful lot of money being wasted on this which could be spent on the living.

Does anyone think I'm callous.

For believing that? No.

If you said that to someone who had that happen, yes.

I agree with you, but i'm not a religious person, maybe these people think their relatives walk round heaven with one kidney and a liver missing?

Sheer justice would be that the crooks who subrepticiously deprived the family of beloved organs, be obliged to reimburse in kind with their own organs.

I'm sure most were just rather angry at the fact they weren't asked, hearing how their relatives corpse was cut to pieces like some meat in a butchers shop is obviously going to upset people. If they were asked that they could donate the brain in order to help others who maybe affected then most would probably agree.
Compulsory organ donations although sounding nice I doubt society would currently accept, perhaps just abit more encouragement to donate out of free will because of the possible benefits would give a slightly lower yield but without the backlash.

I believe capital punishment should be brought back and any type of medical/product testing done on the corpses of those who are killed rather then on animals.

I think organ donation post mortem should remain an opt in, not be mandatory. A strong campaign to get people to carry organ donation tags is probably the best course of action.

Im not saying that people shouldn't be asked and that consent given( i personnaly don't care what happens to me or my relatives but i understand other people have different views) I have a problem with all the money being spent on looking into what happened over the past 30 years. It aint gonna bring anyone back.

I suspect there is a whif of compensation in the air

We all have a thing about handing ourselves, or our loved ones, over to the doctors. Discovering that the medical practitioners have done something without consent makes people ask "if they do that to the dead, what might they do to the living without consent?". Basically we don't trust doctors (sweeping generalisation there ).

What annoys me is that because several people did something they should not have in the past, the medical services have a finger of suspicion pointed at them today and will have to run around and waste resources trying to sort this out.

There has been an argument at Sheffield Hallamshire Hospital where they kept organs from dead children. A number of the parents wanted a plaque acknowledging this. The hospital didn't want this, neither did the majority of the parents involved but because a few shouted about it there has to be a plaque shaming the hospital for a past mistake to make these people feel better.

I plan to be mummified for my future reincarnation, so I'll need all my organs. Preferably in little jars in the next chamber.

I wish people would come to accept death, and not attempt to prolong life, especially through the illegality of mandatory post morten organ donations.

Sorry, but I have more important things to do than die. I'd take an organ any day(and give mine without hesitation once I'm dead)

Compulsory organ harvesting with an opt-out option is great however.

Nope... it should be the other way around... like in Illinois... if you want to donate organs, you sign up.

Sava: That's the way it is in Israel. that's why we have a severe organ deficiency and people suffer while waiting for organs.

My father had a liver transplant. he was lucky. Many other people are not so lucky.

But I am glad that you can wave your "cadaver rights" crap when lives of people are at stake. you're not better than floyd.
