Well I'm not sure of the map size but I'm talking about a standard 8 civ game. I'm playing an emperor game now as the zulus (sucked this time) my continent was long colonized by 1AD. I believe by 1AD, I was rescuing the Bab and Ottoman cities from their evil rulers.

Playing Regent level, Huge world, 16 civs, continents, consistently, I can confirm that the world is typically colonized by 1 AD.
Oh sure, there'll still be a few little squares left and the civs will always have 1 or 2 or more settler teams working to land there... and they will land there if they can, but there's no huge areas left for colonization.
Might be different on different world sizes or difficulty levels. Just throwing in my ten cents.

When is the release date? I'm sure it has been posted, but I couldn't find it.

Panag, on average you must play bigger maps than anyone else out there. Hopefully the maps will get bigger in Conquests?
Does anyone think Amazon.com or some other online retailer will offer any bonuses for pre-ordering the game?

Thanks for the list Spiffor; I assume you plan to keep it updated as more information comes out. Though recently I haven't heard of anything new, just the same old stuff published on different sites.

When I play on Earth Map, I used Marlin map. It is 250 X 240 I think. I never play on Civ 3 maps, always I go to the editer and make a 250 X 250 map and then play the game. This current game I started with 20 civ's. There now 18. My last game, I started with 17. Two games ago, I started with 24. Turn became 20 min or so.
It look like 17 to 18 civ's are just about right. Not real fast, but not real slow.

Great, but RAM is also very important, but I'm sure you have a ton of that too.

Actuall the ram is not that important. I played AU402 on two systems I have. One is 3.02 GH with a 1 GB ram. I forget the numbers, but I seem to recall it never used more than 380M.
I ran some turn on my 1.7GH with 512MB and it never used more than about the same amount. NOw if you are running other things at the same time, that may be issue, but it does not seem to need more than 512MB.

Comparing 1GB vs. 512MB of RAM may not make much of a difference. But if you go below 512MB, you are going to have issues. I went from 256MB to 512MB and the improvement was HUGE - 5+ minute late game turns became 1 minute or less on huge maps.

True, less than 512 will be a bottleneck.
