Game no longer runs after upgrading from DX9 to 9a!
Argghhh!. I upgraded my machine recently from a PIII450 to an Athlon 1.6Ghz. It came with DX9 installed. Reinstalled CTP2 and it worked wonderfully (and fast). Even that delay bug only tookabout 8 seconds instead of the usual minute or so.

Great I thought. But I heard that DX9 had bugs so upgraded it to 9a.

Looking forward to getting into a decent game of CTP2 with the great new speed.

Since then CTP2 gets the dreaded hexadecimal error and refuses to run. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled it to no avail. I don't belive this! And of course activision no longer supports CTP2 so grrrrrrrr.....

Don't want to go back to DX8.1 (which would require a clean disk install in any case) because RON requires DX9.

So now what do I do?

Well, guess what? 9a is buggy as well You can count on Microsoft for releasing bug-free products

I have DX 9 (not 9a) myself as well and so far didn't have any problems with it. So unless you had serious problems with DX9, I'd suggest you roll back to DX9 and continue use that for the time being. If it ain't broken, don't fix it

PROBLEM SOLVED!
I managed to reinstall DX9 (removing the "a") but still the same problem.

Finally I reinstalled Win98. It told me for some reason that it hadn't completely reinstalled last time so I chose safe install mode so it would complete it and it worked! Yeah!

IMO, reinstalling Win98 was the only solution as once installed the DirectX components can't be uninstalled... I am running CtP2 with an Athlon 1800, Win200 Pro and DirectX 9 without any problem though I have found that setting the "Hardware Acceleration" of the Graphic Card one rank below "complete acceleration" is solving some display bugs...
