Please??
Hi

I posted a thread similar to this in the problems forum but got little response. I am looking for a nice, kind, generous Civ 3 player to copy the file "~ef7194.tmp" found in the windows\temp folder, and send it to me in an email. I need this file to play the game, but do I not have it, but I assume if your copy of the game works you all must have the file. Could someone please help me?? I am desperate to play civ 3 again for the first time in about 4 months, and I cannot do it unless i have this file!!!

cheers in advance,
MIK

I have no such file on my harddrive, so I'd assume it gets created when Civ3 starts, and deleted after the start.
You may be interested in this page. It doesn't mention the .tmp as such, but has quite a good troubleshooting guide, and you can contact them at the end of the page.

It is likely that your copy of PtW is corrupt or has a problem with your computer... On what OS are you playing ? Has it been always so ? Are both of your copies bought US versions (or the same localized versions ?) What did change in your computer recently ? Etc, etc. Since we don't have the file on our computers either, we can't help you if we don't have all the details

Besides, you should edit your previous post : you will have huge spam in your mailbox if you keep your email adress displayed like that

Hi

Cheers!

yes the error says "Error: Create Process (C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\~ef7194.tmp)

The system cannot find the file specified

I'm using Win 98, not PTW, just civ 3, and the patch causes an invalid page fault when trying to run it, so I'm at a loss.

I will email that page you posted, and yes I'll edit my post!!!

Cheers mate!!

MIK

Hi,

I think this is a random generated file name, so you have very little chance of finding it on someone else's computer. Civ3 is trying to create a temporary file, but fails for some reason. The most common reasons are: it doesn't have the rights to write in that directory (I don't think this is the case with win98) or the directory doesn't exist.

If it does exist, you should try to reinstall Civ3.

I highly suggest that you take a day off from work, or after school one night and completely backup and reinstall everything on your computer including the OS.

This is a draconian approach for fixing your problem, but in the long run you will thank me as you will end up with more free space on your HD and faster file accessing in general. I also suggest getting Win 98 SE, XP, or at least go to www.windowsupdate.com and get all the patches made for '98 before Microsoft halts support for your OS.

If you've done all this then I'm at a loss because I don't have a list of civ3 errors and have never experienced this problem.

hrm...tmp stands for temporary, which means they're NOT saved on your harddrive and that one can't copy it and send it to someone else...
I agree with the others and strongly suggest that you reinstall....

yeah I got that tmp was a temp file, but there are alot of temp files that get created in that directory and left there, and I just wondered if this was one of them.

I will dowload updates to windows, and then look at reinstalling if that doesnt work. Thanks for the help guys!!
