My Horrible Summer (so far)

By summer I mean since when school ended, btw...

So, after finals, I stayed around in Atlanta for a bit. Didn't have a job, but my dad got me one with the Prosecutor's Office in my home county of Ocean Country, NJ. So, since I was going to in NJ the entire summer, I decided to stay in Atlanta for an extra week and a half. Of course during this time my and g/f broke up. At the time it was kinda amicable and a 'break for the summer'.. but since I came back she's been acting like she broke up with me for good. Why? Does it make her feel more powerful? Of course before I left I asked her to check my mail and give in my rent checks, which she's done, but that's wierd.

I mean, she probably wonders if I have any other friends. Not when you wanted me to spend all my time with you! Hell, I basically followed you to Atlanta. Evil women.

Anyway, I have the job to fall back on right? Wrong! Apparently they have to do a background check and then submit it to the Freeholders of the County to vote on... but that's gonna be ANOTHER 3 weeks!

Not that I hate hanging around with you guys, but it's getting boring! And, there is a chance that I'll fall short on my July rent payment because of it! So I need another part time job. I'm interviewing tomorrow with the Children's Cancer Fund to be a telemarketer (just what I wanted to do this summer ). Even that doesn't assure me of anything (especially if I only get paid every 2 weeks at the county job and my first week there isn't a pay week). Fortunetly my mom said she'd loan me the rest of the money for a week until I get my paycheck. But, it still sucks!

So, I'm going to the mall this afternoon to see if anyone needs someone to work weekends. If I can get a decent wage and a weekend job, I'll take that and forget about the telemarketing (3 jobs, no way).

I just can't wait for this summer to be over and me to be back in Atlanta.... unfortunetly it's only June and school starts in August .

So there is my crap summer... anyone else have a story to share?

I think my last 12 months are too long..what about the last 6 months? Nah, still too long.

Lets just say a year without any income is a pain in the ass, though I am more than willing to swallow pride and live at home, so homelessness and hunger are not in te cards.

Perhaps in the next few weeks I will go into retail.... And then by next year, i will flee back to school.

The problem is that I have friends... they are just in Atlanta! Everyone up in Jersey has graduated and is gone... maybe a few remain. If I had a job in Atlanta I'd be fine.

Sorry about the girlfriend but you should never supplicate by following a girl. If she wanted to be with you, she'd have stayed.

Next, the job thing. Looking for a job here as well, but there's **** all unless you fancy stuck behind a smoky bar or swiping goods across a barcode all day. Out of the choice of the two, I'll do the latter. You've probably got a better choice there.

Try and find a site like www.dooyoo.co.uk - you write articles and each view gets you about 5 cents. Find a busy site and a good article can get you $5 or $6. Rattle out six a day and it's not a bad supplementary income. You'd have to search for a similar American one though.

I'd have prefered to stay in Atlanta, but my dad was insisting that he pulled strings to get me this job. Way to pull strings, dad .

I do wonder how many mall stores need someone just for the weekends. Maybe I should have been a substitute teacher for these few weeks .

Done it (basically). But I still have to be nice to her... she's checking my mail and my apartment from time to time (to see everything is alright). Hell, she agreed to do it before we 'broke up', so that's what she gets.

Just applied to places in the mall... economy isn't too hot, so they aren't paying much. I think the telemarketing job might be the best thing if I can get $10-$12 an hour. *crosses fingers*

If you're bored, then try driving around the country living out of your car for a couple weeks. It's great fun, and you won't default on your rent. Just make sure that you don't bring a credit card with you into the casino when you inevitably wind up in Reno or Vegas, unless you're certain that you've got an iron will.

Well, sorry to hear...but do try and put it in perspective! You got dumped, but the breakup wasn't as bad as it could have been, and everyone gets dumped at some point. It's a universal bad experience. As for the job thing, the one you want may still come through, and when it does, you'll be happy about it. Until then, I'm sure you can be frugal, stretch the money and be okay. Don't be too proud when it comes to earning some bucks to pay rent.

Above all, try and remember these aren't catastrophes, just little bumps. That way you can relax and still enjoy yourself during the summer.

It ain't the girl that is the main problem though... it's the lack of income. I NEED about $350 this month to pay rent. But I can't take a full time job, because I have the Prosecutor's Office job at the end of this month. If I fall short, I can ask my parents to rent me some, but that's not something I really want to do (I can just see the dissapointed face and the lecture about the expensive school).

That way you can relax and still enjoy yourself during the summer.

When I start working and collecting an income I will .

Let me clarify something... the main problem with the job thing is that I HAVE the Prosecutor's Job... only much later than I thought I'd start working. So any part time job I get now can't interfere too much with the 30 hours I'd be working for them.

Basically I need the Prosecutor's Job right now for my resume (I need a law job on there). If I had plenty of money in my account, I wouldn't mind so much, I just need to work there for like a month and it'd be ok. But I do need the money and I need to find a job that won't interfere with the future job I have.

So, it's very confusing and messy.

Its been a really surreal bit of summer so far with me hanging around home not doing much of anything until I head out for my job in Korea. Spending a week hiking with a girl who I used to have an enormous crush on and who I'll probably never see again (or won't see for at least a year or three) hasn't made things any less strange...

My father's friend just had a talk with the head of the Prosecutor's Office. He's already budgeted the money, so they'll try to extradite the process (it should take 2 weeks, but maybe they can get it down to 1). Let's hope.
