best golf game?
I'm trying to find a good one. I would still play "david leadbetter's greens" but the patch no longer is available. jack nicklaus sucks. i never tried links or EA's golf line. i used to play mean 18 as well, but i like the complexity of greens.

anybody can point me to a decent program?

Probably Tiger Woods 03.
It has alot of courses and players to unlock and full PGA license

A new swing system makes for a very short learning curve but a kind of career mode where you win money and buy attributes to raise your skills as you go.All aspects of the game(chipping, putting etc) are very playable. There is no awkwardness.Power boost and spin control.Fading and hooking is also "natural" in feel.No 3 click swing

50 scenarios where you try to acheive bronze, silver or gold medals.Special challenges award trophy balls like 1st ace,1st 350+ drive.
Tiger challenge where you compete against a variety of players and PGA pros over a bunch of courses.Kinduva a ladder type thing where you play your way up unlocking players and courses as you go.
You actually play to gain 100% completion like in some games llike GTA3.

Online play(will be much better in 04).Monthly suscription rates after free introductory period at EA Sports Online however.
Course editor if you are into that stuff and lots of courses and whatnot available for d/l
Excellent graphics and great sound effects.Lots of stats
Lots of pros like Tiger,Monty,VJ,Leonard etc.
Not very realistic scores as in most golf games.Current lead in console "online" tournament is 43 -29

Not really worth mentioning Links.Just awful in comparison. You have Jack so you know.Links is worse than that.

04 is gonna be a big step up.There will be a 52 week Tournament schedule career mode

Tiger Woods '03 is lots of fun, but don't expect realistic scores. You're doing badly if you don't average a birdie on every hole. Once you get good, you can throw up some ridiculous scores. I shot a 26 on Birkshire I thnk is the name, it's the English couse where you can hole in one all the par 4's.

Real men don't play with mulligans on which is the only way you shot 26 at Royal Birkdale.Unless you only played 9 holes

There are things you can do to make play harder.Back tees in gale force winds with hard greens and expert pins will up the scoring average. You can modify all of this.

Oh, yeah. I maaaay have manipulated the score a little. Under the normal "hardest" conditions my score is usually in the upper 40's or low 50's.

Any of the Links series are fantastic and support dozens of course addons.

Presently: Tiger Woods.

Of all time: I loved Microprose Golf and PGA Tour for my Amiga.

Bah..Links is awful. It really is.I'm sorry, but this is the truth.I have 3 different versions of it and it seems to get worse each time

I should also mention SimGolf. Not a "golfing" golf game per say, although there is golfing in it.Surprisingly addictive
