Friday the 13th: a "foreign brought" jinx.
Aν φοβάστε την...

If you're afraid about... Fridy the 13th it's time to get over it. It is a "foreign brought" jinx which, as the laographers (folklore researchers) underline, has no relation with Hellenic tradition or Hellenic history.

It all started on Friday 13th of 1307, in France. At that day, 1,500 knights of the Naites were slaughtered, a religious faction with gret power and even greater political influence.
It was, history sources say, a plan of the then king of frane Philip, with the aim for him to be delivered from a faction with political power that may have threatened his political schemes.

However, the Naites were supposed at that time to hold the secret of the hiding place of the holy sindone (the sheet upon which it is believed that the body of Jesus Christ was placed after they removed him dead from the Cross).

hence that day (Friday and 13th) it was deemed «apofrada» (~despicable~/destructive) for the western theocratic Europe. However Hellenic loagraphers deem that it is a foreign brought fashion. «Something that came from Hollywood movies» as they say.

«The Hellenic tradition deems Tuesday the 13th as the only jinx day. It is the day that Constantinople "fallen" (Teusday 13th 1453)» explains laographer Ms Popi Zora.

«Weddings were never performed at those days, the homes were closed to social visits, festivities or celebrations. It was a day were, in older times, no trade deals were finilizaed and no serious professional decisions were made. It was a day for us to remember, as an ethnos, for ever the "black day" in Hellenic history»

I always knew why teusday the 13th was the jinx day but I always wondered why the rest of Europe considered Friday the 13th as the jinx day.

On a relevant note (hell am I lifting the average quality of OT or what) the Holy Sindone, or Holy Sheet, is residing in a museumin Germany (or is it some german town tht french took?)

I remember i saw it once but don't remember which museum was it or which town.

Any ideas?

In France, Friday 13th is a lucky day. At least, that's what the Lottery says. it always gives higher gains for the Friday 13th, and expects many more clients.

I reminded one of my Japanese students about Jason and the Argonauts not too long ago. He had seen Friday the 13th and told me that it would be strange to name someone Jason after that movie. So I told him about the other Jason. Then I described that cool scene where he fights the skeleton warriors.

My team's Gate number is 13. Which might explain why we've been losing the championship to Olympiakos for the last 7 years.

The supernatural conspiracy becomes even more apparent when you think that the Gate number of Olympiakos is 7. Can't get more crystal clear than that.

Just repaint the numbers on the gates.

The expression in the UK is "13 - unlucky for some".

I've met people who live in fear of the number 13. Can't remeber the name of it now - Drydeckaphobia? Something like that.

I was told that the superstition came from 12 apostles +Thaddeus + Judas - but that's probably complete rubbish.

My grandmother was born on Friday the 13...Her family was ultra superstitious, so they legally changed her birthday to the 14th.
