The great thing about it is that Jersey loses on every level, except they do have the most landfills, industrial parks and cess pools. Yay Jersey!

Damn you bastards. You piqued my curiousity, so I picked up my brother's copy of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" yesterday. Ended up reading nearly the whole thing last night. So it begins...

MWAHAHAHA... We got Drake hooked too! PoA is probably my second favorite too (after OoP).

And we have better shorelines, farm production (especially in fruit), horse stables, income (highest medium income in the country), and higher standards of living (Monmouth/Ocean County ranked #3 best place to live in the US by Money Magazine in 1999). So to fools living in the city.

Don't get too excited. It certainly wasn't the best thing I've ever read, but it was an easy read with an enjoyable storyline. I could think of worse ways to kill an evening.

How's that for a glowing recommendation?

Don't make us come over there and crush you Imran, it won't be pretty. Oh, and as for median income and so: wow, really? I guess all those poor people in NYC really help get our average up....

Oh, as for sending the book: I have no problem. Think of the book itself, and what a quality of life imporvement it would have going from Jersey to NYC.

Think of the Book Imran, think of the Book!

Hey drake: don;t worry, the books are fast reads, so they won't really suck up much time.

If it wanted a quality of life improvement, the book would learn to stay put in one of the jewels of America, right here in the heart of Jersey, rather than go over the bridge in that cesspool of a city called New York .

Were are more witches likely to recide, Jersey (read, Dursley-like Mugglesville) or good old NYC? where they could walk out without even changing from robes and no one would care? (people commute OUT of Jersey, nmot towards it)

I mean, really?

The Burrow sounds more at home in Jersey... as does Hogwarts. Nice ruralish settings like in Western NJ.

And of course a lot of wizards and witches would love to be relax near the Jersey Shore, flying past the long lines of NY tourists in their 'cars'.

Or maybe Hogwarts is in White Plains, or the scenic Hudson Valley area?

And since when do wtches go to the beach? And they would be better of in the Hamptons anyway.

HA, Hamptons... they'd take Cape May and Long Beach Island over the Hamptons any day.

Hogwarts would definetly prefer the nicer area in Western NJ. You never know, Steve Forbes is eccentric enough that he might be a powerful wizard.

All they mentioned is a school in Salem (obviously), but apparently there are many, unnamed, schools that exist all over the US.

Yeah, but you (and Steve Forbes) are crazy. Much more powerful wizards (if eccentricity is a prerequisite) live in NYC.

And western Jersey? You mean the part were you only have 10 chemical dumps per person, not 20? Wow....

Besides, NYC is closer to NE (and Salem) than the pit of despair..I mean, Jersey...

Are we just supposed to believe that all the best wizards in the world are from Europe, the U.K. in particular? Are there any kick-ass American wizards I haven't read about yet, or does the greatest country on Earth get the shaft in the Potter universe?

The Kid is british. No reason to have said much about the US. (you don;t hear about any chinese or Indian or japanese wizards either).maybe in later books, but I think it unlikely. I guess the old and establised communisites of Europe might not socialize much with the new ones of the colonies.

Says the person who hasn't strayed two feet from ghettovil... eh, New York .

Try driving a little.... no more than 30 miles from the trashheap called the city you should see massive farms and horses running in fields. Maybe you'll see the great cranberry, blueberry, and tomato yields New Jersey is famous for. Maybe you'll even see a farmer's market on the side of road. You'll definetly see plenty of stables and farms before you hit the Delaware River.

You know, places wizards would love.

Jersey is only the best state in the union, what have you got to fear?

If there were powerful wizards in America and Asia, don't you think that Dumbledore et al might have brought them in to combat You-Know-Who? Not that any of this is very important, but it just struck me as odd when I was reading last night. I'd have liked to see Rowling make the wizarding community more global; it would've been cooler that way.

Hmmm, that is kinda interesting. Though I wonder if Voldemort is a localized thing. You know like other countries have their own dark wizard problems, etc.

Oh, the poor folks of the Upper east side and their 10m apartments, living in the Ghetto... Oh, and I have been in great caribbean paradise spots, and NYC still rules!

Wow, stables and farms...yup, that's what i want to see, farms...NOT! Ican get porduce from anywhere in the world here in NYC, the pick of the best of the entire wolrd. I don;lt have to wait for the mutated donkey hauling that cart to get to my house to deliver some local produce.

If that were true, then Harry Potter wouldn't be much of a celebrity outside the U.K. That would be an interesting twist.

I once had a girlfriend from Cape May...

I plan on never going to Cape May.

Drake, yeah, he's never been out of the country. In GoF did any other school people recognize him?

Everyone from Beaubaxtons and the other one knew of him. They do seem to have an international community, a European one (and hence Viktors "global popularity"). I think one can assume that they wizard communities of Europe know well of each other (like Charlie studying dragons in transylvania).

A bigger porblem is how the Muggles don;t seem to know much of wizards.

If wizards barely know about guns, what about Nuclear annahilation? (obviosuly not a topic for HP, but still)

Durmstrang...

Hmmm... that makes Drake's point very valid. Why aren't others helping fight Voldemort. Maybe Dumbledore couldn't risk it until the Ministry was convinced?

Well, the question of national borders is not very well establised. Does each state have it's own ministry? besides, if Voldemorts previous reign had had international consequences, keeping it from the Muggles would have been a real nightmare.

Fame travels easily. Voldemort did not have to be an international threat for people to get to know the sotry of someone like Harry.
