Cameroon player dies after semi-final
Cameroon football player Marc-Vivien Foe collapsed during the semi-final against Columbia in Confederation cup, which Cameroon won. His heart stopped, and after less than an hour, he died without getting conscious, after unsucesfull attempts of doctors to restart his heart.

Very sad .

France and Turkey, they're playing their semi right now. So it's Cameroon against either of those in the final. And I'd bet on Turkey.

Aw man. I remember watching him, he used to play for West Ham.

I've always loved the Cameroon side, they play the game the way it's meant to be played.

He's also a player for Manchester United Reserves.

Bet drugs were involved in there, and of course will be hushed up a lot.

Do you HAVE to make these comments, Bods? You know, they get checked for drugs well enough, and this is a very, very faint chance. Show some respect...

A lot of people in football take drugs. Dropping down dead is a classic give away sign of abuse. Tests are inadequate too.

Another reason it will get hushed up, he is black.

A lot of people take drugs after they stopped playing football. Take Maradona for example. And he didn't drop dead... he died afterwards. His heart stopped, which, to me, is a perfectly valid sign of it not being able to take the physical pressure.

Poor man. We shouldn't be taking drugs into consideration until tests are done, but then that wouldn't diminish the tragedy of his death.

...

France vs. Cameroon will probably be the final...Turkey's losing 3-1 right now. Turkey will likely beat Colombia for 3rd place though.

I can't see what are you laughing at... OK, so Maradona did use some stuff while playing, but that was when he was already on the downside of his playing careet. And, if he hadn't used it, he would've played in 1994 World Cup...

The first Turkey Cameroon match was not that great. Nice to see Cameroon make it to the finals.

A great tragedy Much as I would like to think it was simply from stress and overwork, I do not wish to be naive. Cameroon are a great side, and have been for quite some time. The style is so distinctive and vibrant, it's hard not to be enthralled by it. A great loss for the sport, however it came about.

A post mortem is going to reveal what lead up to his death - a death without any cause is going to be a lot more suspicious than one involving drugs.

Why would any (let alone the MOST SUCCEFFUL) manager want to hush up drugs usage? You honestly think the coaches are passing out dope to the players? You really believe managers don't care about their players health care?

You bet if there are drugs involved, any team boss is going to go public on it - and make DAMN sure the rest of the squad is OK.

As for being black - no difference if he was white, yellow or brown.

cruddy, you are fairly new here, so let me give you some helpful advice. when bod's makes a pointless reference to race then don't comment on it, it only encourages him :/

So medical science is totally inadequate, yet Bods can spot a druggie on a different continent. That's a mighty fine power you've got there Bods.

Other reasons for dropping dead after a match?

Undiagnosed heart condition.

Burst blood vessel (in the brain, you are are dead in minutes).

Poison (not self administered).

Asphyxia.

Allergy.

Need I go on?

Yes, but a non-black person would be black after severe electrocution. Would this also be hushed up?

More than one ways to debunk Bod's twaddle.

Generally I favour C0ckney's approach when faced with something that is prejudiced or out of place, especially on the net:

Sad news, it is probably a bloodclot or something along those lines. I remember when Kanu transferred from Ajax to Inter(?) and he got diagnosed with that heart problem. You'd think that someone who has been transferred around as much as Foe would have had a large number medicals in which you hope they'd pick something like that up.

Btw, France has won against Turkey about 2 hours ago. The end of the match sucked, with the French weaseling out to avoid losing their advantage

After the match, the French coach, as well as the players, were in tears. IIUC, Foe has played in Lyons, where the French coach worked at the same time, and where a few of the French team's players come from.

It is sad however the guy died.

Medical science is not perfect at picking up fatal illness before they strike, even in world class sports figures.

Mind you, it's pretty damn hot at finding the reasons why after they died.
