Celebrating odd-sized cities in deity
You MP players play too much and too fast. You should take a rest and read the GL a little.
I explain it in 'happiness quirk'.

It explains the even odd as we knew. But it doesn't address why sometimes your capital won't celebrate when your second city does, and they're the same size, and the cap has more trade than the second city. If I missed a post, please post the post number.

I thought that..........but I didn't post because then I thought that ST probably means that your capital in that example would be one of the unlucky cities with first person unhappy.

Not from anything I read there. But I will admit that I just skimmed some of the posts. Maybe he'll come back and enlighten us.

Well you know as well as anyone how some cities can have first person unhappy when others will not............that could explain your example right?

It's not the same thing, I think. At least from reading that thread. Your cap is always your first city in their patterns.

Yeah... I had a city last night that just wouldn't celebrate... and a city right next to it, built after it, with less trade just celebrated away. It didn't matter odd or even pop... or how many workers I put on the water... it just didn't do anything... weird.

Yep... while it still had more available trade squares to use, it seem like the starting location was probably the problem.

rah, today I added one new post to 'happiness quirk'. Its subject is 'Celebrating odd-sized cities in deity'.

If you wonder why your city don't celebrate, look at first row of happiness analysis of city window. I am sure 1st citizen is unhappy there.

The pattern which cities have first citizen unhappy is in the post about UDNC.
For example if you settle your 9th city in Rep and deity, cities with ACN 8,16,24... will get 1st citizen red. Your capital may have ACN 8 and so it won't celebrate. Your second city may have ACN 11 and so it will celebrate.

Edited: start ot the post.

Location of a city has nothing with 1st citizen unhappy. Only ACN controls this.

Thought that's what you meant.

I am still intrigued by this feeling that starting square terrain is important.......hunches of long time players are always worth checking.

You can find ACNs in .sav file easily: cities are sorted by ACN there.

I'm using a strat at the moment where its really important that one city in particular celebrates. In 2 current games that city won't. One of em is built on a river with specials and has trade coming out the dilio.

GRRR!!

Good Idea. If I can find an example in my save library, I'll do the same thing. But there are SOOOOO many games out there.

Back to the topic...................as strange as that may seem

Upon further review of that thread and your emphasis on ACN, it now makes sense. (yes, it takes a little longer for us feeble old men) I kept thinking it was YOUR build city order that was used in a backwards order. Now I understand the difference between that and ACN so your chart makes sense now.

APPLICATION................
So when you run into the situation that, early on, where your cap won't celebrate, just build a new city. That will change which ACN number (city) gets pimped. With some thought, you may be able to accelerate celebrating if you build extra cities at the right time. Time to look at the pattern again.

Thanks Slow, for your patience.

Rich

Don't forget new cities from 9th city to 16th city (I suppose we are in republic) hinder. Only new cities after 16th city help you - because of the Black Hat Bug.

That's the idea. You'll pimp another city, but who cares. The problem in you capital will be gone.
