Its that time...again
due to my rather depressing post in another thread on this forum I have decided that Im going to start buying more games!

I havent seen any appealing new releases lately, but maybe Ive missed something, any suggestions?

I have money to waste and waste it I shall!

That's pretty quick

Nah, haven't seen any promising new games either. Unless you are into Warcraft, then Frozen Throne is supposed to be good.

WC is an alright series, but buying a new one every year isnt worth it.

Rise of Nations; no, I dont like games where the point is to click faster than the other person/ai. Though it does look cool, so its not certain.

Kohan; no, it doesnt look special and it has magic

Disciples; no, are you a RTS junky?

Patrician; maybe, I'll have to read more about it. is it campaign based or are you free to acheive your goal as you see fit? Also do you build the towns from the dirt up or do you simply go about your business in them?

Europa Universalis II; at first glance, SWEET JESUS YES!!
Hearts of Iron; SWEET JESUS YES!!

Have I ever told you how much I love you, St. Leo?

While technically it is a RTS, it has a pause button so you can sit and think about your moves, send orders out to your units while paused and generally take as much time as you want. Clicking speed is irrelevant in single-player. You can also set the speed to slow or very slow if you dislike pausing.
I am enjoying the game, anyway.

Well as a strat fan who owns an xbox(a difficult concept!) i'd recommend getting 'Morrowind', it's a huge game. Ok it's an rpg, BUT the world is wonderfuly realised and you have a free reign to play it as you like. Did i say the world is HUGE!
You should get many months of gaming fun from it. The PC version has the added bonus of lots of expansion packs and modding plug-ins.
Thinking hard about it this must be the best value for money game released in recent years.
Anyway shouldn't you be busy felling lumber and keeping the grizzly's at bay? [Alaska along with New Zealand and Iceland is one of my favourite countries i haven't visited!].
You may not like RPG's, i'm not sure of them - too much magic, but this game is possible to play as an 'honest no magic' warrior type. If you get into it you'll be lost for a long time(if you don't cheat too much!).

ah sorry what i meant was within the parameters of an RPG, you have free reign to play it as you like. i.e. my girlfriend plays a female theif character that stays out of combat as much as possible - she just uses her theif skills to sneak around alot breaking into peoples houses to steal their possesions.
I play as a barbarian scout, able to handle myself in a fight but more at home roaming the land picking 'herbs' and plundering tombs and ruins, rather than the city and town based life she prefers. From some of the other threads here on the game, playing a magic useing character seems popular.
It's really a very flexible experience and seems to offer a fair amount of replay value.

one thing you might need to check is the system requirements - it might need a fairly high spec pc to run comfortably(I'm playing the xbox version which is very beautiful!).

Oh and i mean i plan to visit Alaska,New Zealand and Iceland! I just haven't yet They seem to me to be really great places to live

Morrowind is definately the best investment I have ever made in a game (with the exception of Golden Sun). Huge world, nonlinear (There is a storyline, though you do not have to use it). It's "stable" (Crashes from time to time, so make sure to rest "or press T" often).
I run it comfortably (aka it's moderately fast, though there are no 'frills'.) on my: 700 MHz, 300+ MB RAM NVIDIA Geforce 2 card with viewing distance set to the lowest.

But my computer is old, so I'm pretty sure you have a better one and therefore, can run it much better than I can Although if you do decide to get the PC version, I *HIGHLY* recommend you search for a no-cd crack.

How about Port Royale? It got a great review at GameSpot. Sounds a lot like Patrician II only with Caribbean setting; you can even try to make your way as a pirate.

I like RPGs, and this Morrowind game seems interesting. I went to its official website and I found out that it is a single-player game. I thought it was some sort of MMORPG.

But it's glorious. Trust me. No 133t to deal with, or subscription fees....Just a fun, large RPG.

completely single player.

no hope for multiplayer anytime ever in this universe.

I'm mixedon morrowing. The world is huge, and you can do a lot of stuff, but the combat just isn't that interesting for me.

how does the combat work? I usually overlook such things in rpgs, though it usually turns out to be the thing that makes or breaks it for me.

damn, I'll have to buy an Xbox if I want to play Morrowind. The PC version has not been released here, but the Xbox version has. I mean, wtf? Any moron could see that the Xbox is not a popular gaming platform around here, but most everyone who plays electronic games has a PC at home.

As I remember, morrowind combat is kind of a slowed down jedi knight thing- hold down the mouse button and release to attack, 1st person perspective. I never played a spell caster, so I dunno if that was any good.

You can fight in 3rd person, but it's rather hard . Spellcasting gets harder later in the game when you have a lot of them. All in all, it's one of the best games I've ever played. You have a gigantic area to roam in, and you can do anything you want. You can do the main mission, join a house (3) and do hundreds of unique (not randomly generated- coded) missions, join guild(s) (Fighter, Theif, Morag Tong, Mages, Imperial Legion, etc.). Then there are the side quests, not related to any mission... Dungeons are a bit small, though.

soul caliber was a good game, but undeserving of a sequel imho. no fighting game is.

Ive come to a conclusion and heres the list:

1. Hearts of Iron
2.EU II or RoN (need help on deciding)
3. some cheap older game that looks good and might spark my interest in another series that is entirely unheard of.

as stated in number two on the list I need help deciding which on of those two games to get. I would get them both but then I would feel like Im just wasting money, so lets here opinions on Rise of Nations and Europa Universalis II. What are the pros/cons, etc. ?
