especially since this thread is clearly not being seen with an open mind.
You mean that people don't consider this horrendus 'music' to be good . Here is my question, do you think that rock or country require any talent or intelligence?

I mean, really, how many people here are really going to say popular musicians are 'intelligent'? They can just sing (or rap) good. So what? Doesn't mean they are smarter than the bag of rocks!

David... if rap is so easy, it should only take a few minutes to come up with something good... or may i dare say it? rap actually takes some effort?

and in any event, you need to compare lengths... a verse in rap has a word count of what? 100 words? all I ask of you is to make a less than 100 word rhyming poem... and you and Tassadar ask me to write several pages... it's clear writing a story or political discourse will take more time and effort just because the length is so much greater.

Quote:
Not really - it's not a true measure of intelligence any more than any of the other challenges here are (although the other challenges are more indicative of intelligence than rapping).
that is purely a subjective/society standard. in any event, verse, rhyming poetry was very respected until the 20th century.

Yes, such as Phillips' (Base being Phillips, of course, not phillip) or James' as opposed to Britney's or Makeo's where the base does not end with an S.

However, it's always best to use full names in writing instead of shortened names, as it's easy to get confused. Especially when referring to a domain of names known for defiance of rules and such, where would be acceptable (Such low cultural value...Pathetic).

So INSTEAD OF Nas', TRY Nasir's.

Imran:

the actual act of rapping is nothing... it's just talking. i mean you got to speak on beat and what not but the actual act is far easier than singing...

the main task of the rapper's art is song-writing and i think this is an area that requires some intelligence. a typical rock song does not approach the number of rhyming syllables of a rap song nor do rock songs rely as heavily on puns and similies as rap does.

Now wait a minute. Hold on, Imran.
You go a little far. Playing an instrument takes talent.
Making whooshing and shooshing noises with your mouth, like Rap, doesn't count as an instrument.

One, they entertained. Two, end of story.

To sit there and say rap is great is laughable. Some rap is good, most of it is drivel. I am not prejudiced, I'm an equal opportunity disdainer of crap.

Duh, of course rap takes effort. So does armed robbery, but that doesn't make armed robbers intelligent.

actually, this is a great idea

we have a challenge go out, people try there hand at the challenge

the winner gives another challenge out

of course, these challenges will have to be the type that can be written (Although perhaps we can hae video or musical ones by the attachment thingy)

so what do people think?

I wasn't goign to take part in this challenge, but now I think I am oging to

Slowwhand:

writing a song with simplistic rhymes (or none at all) and no poetic devices about a pickup truck or about non-conformity doesn't count as requiring intelligence.

The Anti-Curse Rap Mickey and Goofy (c) 2003 Disney records

Goofie:
all the day I hear the people curse.
some of these curse within a verse.
anger, fake or real, it doesn't matter.
makes the 'f*ck' and 'sh*t' abuse words scatter.

many people want the life of rap,
make the hoochies sit upon their lap.
although I can't say I disagree
Your lyrics must remain 'explicit'-free.

I'd rather you to rap like Willie Smith
and stop the use of words like 'f***' or 's**t'.
put a lovely intellectual wrap
on the grim realities of rap.

Yo yo yo, my man, Mickey, bring the heat:

Mickey:

'mother****er' 'b*tch' 'son of a whore',
I can't take those lyrics no more!
Relax, people! take the day off!
run around the bay like david Hasselhoff.

No need to be angry or be upset
when tomorrow you'll make cash from every disk or cassette.
life has been good to you now it's time that you see
you don't have to curse to sell an LP.

five rhyming sounds on each line, grinds my mind
tryin' to keep the scheme, weakened theme, cheapened dream
keepin' meaning in the lyrics being harder than it seem
as we see by the songs of the D. R. E. could it be
that in fact theres a gap in what albert calls rap
where the meaning fell out leaving meaningless blurb
relevance is all relative - i'm from Happiness-burb. so i curb
my wish to attack what is yours and remain just the same
lookin' for more to my music than poetry with a beat,
so if you'll excuse me, I'm off to be 1337.

To be fair, although most rap music does suck, the actual poetry of it is quite impressive if only they could stop whining about guns and hos.

Mine suks, but oh well

Ode to SlowwHand

Sloww’s from Texas and they kick Ass
The don’t fish for Bass (base), they fish for Bass
Takin’ from the trailor with tack in hand
Pause by the bank to pull bait from the sand
Hardly have time before the sun goes down
To get the bobber’s bobbin’ and some cold one’s down
Yet when we do it’s going to be a blast
To fish like the nigga’s and never have ta cast
Just pull on the longnecks and let them be
Loungin’ ‘neath the eaves of the big shade tree
When the sun’s arisin’ we’ll head on home
Yell out the wife to polish our chrome
Tell the dirty kids to take out the trash
Then bend her over and shove it up her ass
Check out the news on the ol' RCA
Glad to see we fry another felon today
If this ain’t heaven, I don’t know what is
God Bless Texas, I need to take a wiz…

The typical rapper also does not write his music. Rock and Country music has the songwriter actually write the music as well as the lyrics and make them fit together.

And THEN they actually have to be able to sing .

Rode down to Baltimore, slidin down past the jersey shore
All at once chantin' 'more more more'! in the backseat to crazy beats
For no reason, in their seats no one agreein that it's the season for

Dancin by the bay

Screams of passengers shaking my dreams, somehow seems
Like friends turned serpents ends my hallucination, and hatin
This false pretense, far too dense, attempted to collect recompence

All along the east coast drive

My little volvo knows no sorrow, never hollow with air or gas
Fillin the inside keepin the ride, smooth and tender, never ever
Freak out, don't want to hear no one shout, I think it's about

Time for a drive down the seaside.

Needs polishing, but I think that is enough to show that I know how to glow when it comes to rhyming... In any case, I write poetry, not rap - I find rap far too limiting.

BTW I never claimed rapping is easy, or making lyrics. But I give my shot, I don't understand what you mean by syllabels and stuff, but I hope you give me a break, as english is my 2nd language, so I am not very good with the slang that is used in the game. Here I go!11:

The Game
------------

yo yo check it

I was cruising in my cadillac, scratching my sack and pumping the illest track*
'I bless the mess', turn that **** off, I could care less about wutang killer bees
punk ass ****ing chinese, shaolin monks, they nothing but ugly punks

As I'm getting closer to the house where my baby is
his bro, the poser, he looks at me, like I'm in a ****ing pop quiz
'stay of my sister', I come out of the car like a twister
squeeze off his blood blister and get back to my car
light up my cigar and look like a superstar

Nah.. I'm too tired and can't think of anything good.. I give up!

Writing a story does NOT take intelligence. Writing a good one can, though.

Similarly, writing music does NOT require intelligence. Writing GOOD music often does, though. I wouldn't define rap as good music.
