Hex-editing: Adding a civilization?
Is anyone familiar with hex-editing an .scn or .sav file? I am trying to add a 5th civ to a game that only was set up with 4.

Still no answers... Come on! Somebody must know how to do this.
Has anybody succeeding in causing a Civ to split on purpose? I have tried repeatedly and cannot get to happen. I made sure the Civ had the most cities, most population, most units and most territory... It still won't split when the capital is captured? This is getting incredibly frustrating!

To split a civ:
Have you also made sure it does not have any money left? If it has to much money it wont work.
Mostly it works when it does have no money left...
It might also be influenced by their form of government I believe. Try changing that, too.

With John Petroski's help I think I finally got it...via Hex-editing. It's not a piece of cake but it can be done... Added a 5th civilization to a game that was started with 4 and the special option for not restarting eliminated players.
Anyway this may be useful to someone else so I just wanted to let you know.

It's a little difficult to author a tip on how to do something you are not 100% sure of.

I started a 5 Civ game (Completely strait Civ II game) and set the "do not restart destroyed civilizations" rule. I opened the cheat mode, saved the game, then killed one Civ, saved the game, reloaded the previous save, killed a different Civ and saved that one too.
By hex-editing the 3 saved games I was able to find the exact location of the Hex-code controlling the Civs in play and by trial and error I first got one Civ edited out and another edited in and finally I got one new Civ added... The two digit Hex-number is in the third row of 16 in the second to last position...
Even breaking it out in binary did not make sense; I expected each of the 8 binary digits to represent a CIV in play
For example 01010110(9A) would mean civ 1,3,5 and 6 in play (First digit being the barbarians)...Logically 01011110(9E) should add Civ 4...Well it added Civ 4 but dropped Civ 5... 01011111(9F) added 4 and left 5 in... No logical answer so far.

Yes, Red Front now features the opening of a second front by the American AI, first in Northern Italy (1944) and then in Western Germany (1945).

Excelente, el Capitan!

How many new units will there be for the Americans? I wouldn't imagine you'd have too many slots left...

The Americans are really there for realism not for actual play. They will probably have Infantry & Sherman tanks. There are a few slots left in 1944-45 as the early Soviet units become obsolete. It is critical that the Human player research the "T-34/weapons upgrade wonder" to insure that all units are upgraded and the slots open up when they are needed... I will add it to the Readme file.

Will they at least be scripted to capture a few cities in the west? Then there could be a race for Berlin or something, and if the Americans take it, the Soviets get a penalty or the like. But the US will probably 'let' the Soviets take it anyways just so THEY have all the casaulties...

So many people suggested this that I don't know who did it first... But consider yourself recognized since you claimed it first!
