The Teeth of the Tiger(spoilers)
Got done reading Tom Clancy's latest helping. It still takes place in the Jack Ryanverse, but Jack Ryan is no longer President, Robbie got popped by a KKKer because it looked like he was gonna be the next prez, and Ed Kealty (the Rapist-sleazeball) is now President. Goody.

It's mostly from the viewpoint of Jack Ryan, Jr. Who has joined "The Campus", an anti-terror group Jack Senior set up with and offshore account, they aren't even in the budget. It's also from the viewpoint of two new charecters, Junior's Cousins, a Force Recon Marine and FBI agent.

Anywho, this is a mostly anti-terror novel. Al-Qaeda cuts a deal with the Columbian Cartel; If they help them get folks into the US, Al-Qaeda(or whovever) will help get drugs into Europe. Four Terrorist teams sneak in, and shoot up for different malls across the country, most in middle-america suburbs.

I won't tell how it ends, but it's obvious there are going to be more novels with this group along these lines. It's also worth noteing that the patched up Israeli problem has been derailed in this universe, and the 9/11 attacks did happen.

Sorry, I quit reading that stuff a long time ago, after he had a psycho Japanese pilot fly a 747 into the Capitol to make out-of-work intelligence analyst Jack Ryan into the God-Emperor of the USA.

God, it sounds like such a ripoff of Alan Moore's "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" - and I mean the comic book, not that travesty of a movie with old "who's the man dog now" fella.

There's a passing reference to a suicide bomber when Junior is listening to NPR.

Also, the refer to the Iraqis as "Recently liberated" by unbelievers, even though it takes place about 6 yrs after the war with the UIR.

Not a big fan of Clancy novels, movies are ok, not going to waste my time... Might as shet in a bag and sell it as art, as far as I'm concerned...

Anyway's, the e-mail came in saying the libraries holding it. I used to love Tom Clancey novels, but re-reading them too many times has them loose their appeal.

Can't go wrong with Stephen King. I've read EVERYTHING he's ever written, and I loved every single book. He's both the most prolific AND prodigious writer of ALL TIME.

did he move to Jr. because his ex-wife that he screwed around on owns Sr?

I haven't read Red rabbit nor this new one, not sure I will. After that net-force, op-center, whore out my name for another author, I've soured. And I like action, not some right wing political intrigue book.

Give me RSR anyday. It might be a bit outdated now, but its far better than the last few I read.

Red Rabbit had (a younger) Jack Sr. They reason why he moved away is he's pretty much done all he can do with the Charecter (The guy's President for Jeez's sake)

I've finally finished reading it. My question is HOW DID HE PERSUADE SO MANY PEOPLE TO BUY HALF A BOOK??

"Teeth of the Tiger" contains half of what all the other books contain. There is no magestic ending, Jack Sr. doesn't meet Jack Jr., etc. And I hate the fact that he tries to make up for it by saying EVERY FRICKIN' MANTRA TWICE! . If you haven't bought it yet, don't. Waste of perfectly good money.

Ok everyone, time to show your sticks so we can see who has the biggest one. Excuse me while I whip this out.

I used to like Clancy novels, but the whole Ryan mythology soon wore out its welcome.

Well, did you look at the thing before you bought it? It comes in easily at 1/2 the size of the standard Clancy tomes (a trend that started with the previous book), and doesn't compensate by making the fonts and margins smaller - imho, I think that Clancy uses the largest fonts and margins of any mainstream writer. It is because this book is so small that I won't shell out $20 for it.
