I'd say it was AI, if you look at Kansas city up north the plains are irigated while it has at least 3 grasslands, also in 2x you can just use the water and get 2 food/worker.

Also the American placement of forts is just plain stupid.

I built the forts, to protect my attacking army against retaliation. you'll notice the forts are all outside of former cities.

I'd quite forgotten that you had a sense of humour

I'm the yellow one.
I'm a complete rookie when it comes to 2x production, but now I have learnt a valuable lesson from the master.

And since I don't have any reputation, I'm not affraid to admit this.

For your forth game you didnt do too bad. Just explore a lot faster and stop irigating.

The GW/ST combo was a good one, Col is less inportant in 2x unless you build it on a small off shore island with whales

I agree, but at the time I built colossus, I didn’t have any other wonder tech. In addition I had a few more cities building wonders.

Other things noted. My game will improve in terms of irrigation and city placement.

The other three games didn't go this far. In my very first game I managed to win by military force, but the next two were disasters, both of them similar to this one (me despotism, him republic). We played city bribe, so he bribed me away in one of them. The second one he had twice my number of cities. I never took a look at those saves, but I took a look at our save now and I realise my mistakes.

Saving a couple of times during the game and analizing the game is by far the easyest way to learn any setting.
