i have decided opening programmes is inconvenient, so i just leave civ and and a few other games running all the time. i actually play it until my mom makes me get up and do something else, which means about 2-8 hours.

Usually 2-3 hours in the middle of the night...
... when my wife is asleep
... when my kids stopped explaining to me how to play...
... when the moon rises over the Swiss Alps
... when I feel at peace with the whole world, try a PP game and find myself playing AU208
...

I usually play until:

1. Wife yells.
2. Time for work.
3. Wife yells.
4. Hungry.
5. Kids yell (well, not really).
6. Wife yells.
and 7. Wife yells.

My advice...
1. make your wife play civ, then YOU will yell.
2. change wife? (optional)
3. become deaf

I play for 30 minutes, on average, in one session. I occasionally have time to play for several hours at a time; these are the best of times.

When I have the time I usually play for about two hours or so in a sitting. In the past three weeks I've had time for a grand total of about 5 hours of civ time though.

I probably would have had AU209 beaten by now because my wife and I took the entire Labor Day weekend off to spend vegging at home, but my wife played Myst and Riven all weekend so I did other things.

Yeah, I'm definately playing less than I would like, due to a new wife, but now that she has started classes and I am just hanging around, I have a bit more free time

She's not very computer literate. I could have porn in the root directory and she would never find it. She may not even realize there's a CD in the drive. Besides, she believes PC games are a huge waste of time (**sounds of me scratching head wondering what we have in common** )

I used to play huge marathon sessions of Civ2 and Smac, both SP and MP. But now I find that limiting yourself to 1-2 hours and going back at a later time generates fresher ideas about running an empire.

Well I still like to load the esky with ice and beers, pop it next to the pc.... watch the footy, bike races or some great war movies ..... and crank up civ for a long run.... some of my moves later in the night are funny to revisit but it makes for a fun afternoon and evening

also keeps the pizza shop happy

Once I start I can't stop, anywhere from 2 to 20 hours. Despite pleas from my wife to do this or that. That's why I do not start a game as often as when I was a student.

So long...
