Let me guess -- this is where you take off with your "commie crusade to save Americans from tyranny in the revolution that is bound to occur in the not-so-distant future?"

Depp's entitled to his opinions. I'd think people would respect that he followed through on his promise to leave the U.S., since so many skewered Alec Baldwin for not following through on his own (stupid) threat.
The reason the media source is making it news is because that's what they do. They interview celebs and get their views on everything, because they know adoring fans will gobble it all up. I wouldn't fault Depp for speaking his mind, agree with it or not. I think he's making a very brash and unwise generalization about the U.S. While I understand where he's coming from, there are many places where such a "puppy dog" attitude does not exist at all.
Re his acting: Mock his views, but don't mock his acting. Depp has consistently proven himself as one of the best actors out there, far surpassing any on his generational peers in characterization. Even in films that were decidedly bad (The Ninth Gate), his acting performances have been superb. Would that more actors had his range and abilities. And his looks!

I guess I don't even need to ask who you would pick as the best in Sleepy Hollow.
Johnny "I'm the desire of every Gay man's dream" Depp or
Christina "I'd look so good with a whip and knee high boots laying in Sprayber's bed" Ricci

I've not seen Sleepy Hollow.
But I can think of several films off the top of my head wherein Depp gave exceptional performances:
What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
Edward Scissorhands
Ed Wood
Benny and Joon
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Chocolat
From Hell
Blow
Pirates of the Caribbean

He is in a new one with Antonio Banderas in a sequal to Desperado? Once Upon A Time In Mexico I think is the name.

Perhaps the timing of this isn't accidental

Why do people care what celebrities think? They're all overpaid dipshits... and the few that have brains usually are so obsessed with some insignificant cause like, "SAVE THE ECUADORIAN DANDELIONS!" that they are completely disconnected from reality.
All the morons who *****ed and moaned about the Dixie Chicks will probably boycott all things Depp now... oh well... the only thing dumber than an outspoken celebrity are the dorks that pine over what they believe.

It was easy for me to boycott the Dixie Chicks since I never bought any of their stuff anyway.
I just pray Christina Ricci never gets into anything political. I'll have to change some of my fantasys around

he's right
the cool thing about Depp is he already lives in France
You cannot deny that France is a better country than the U.S. in every way possible. So what Depp is saying is true. France is a very intelligent country with sensible leadership, while the U.S. is not.

I think Depp is a very good actor. I've seen the majority of his films, and he is certainly one my favorites. But I think by praising him so highly you slight his peers, particularly Edward Norton and Brad Pitt.
As for the practice of puting celebrity pontifications on the news, it's despicable. There are plenty of informed opinions out there to fill the space between commercials.

There are at least a couple of women I'd move to France for myself. Juliette Binoche and Fanny Ardent for starters.

Celebrities or movie actors whom Republicans have elected to national office in recent yeras:
Sonny Bono
Fred Thompson (best known as Roseanne's boss in the first season of Roseanne and as the head of airport security in Die Hard 2)
Fred Grandy (Gopher from The Love Boat)
Celebrities or movie actors whom Democrats have elected to national office in recent years:
?
Celebrity bashing really needs to stop being a Republican issue.

Oh, and BTW: Depp actually swiped his comment from a Doonesbury comic from last winter, in which the two jounalist characters (Mark and Jeff?) are at a Rumsfield press conference and suggest that the Bushies' enthusiasm for an Iraq invasion makes it seem "like the country is being run by really big dogs."
