Alex Mor & Captain Nemo, Help Needed
Hello,

First off, I'd like to congratulate Captain Nemo on the most excellent World War II scenario in Civ2 history, one that I am just now getting into. I'd also like to congratulate Alex and wish him luck on his Russian Civil War and Hispaniola.

Now, I need your help. Nothing too critical, but it is necessary for my upcoming, and long, scenario.

Soon to come is "European Imperialism" (translated from French). It will last from 1492 to 1792, spanning 300 years. This will include EIGHT unit files, and many events, of course.

Now, in these units, I need some special features. I was wondering...

1.) How do you guys align the shield graphic with the actual shield?

2.) How do you have a unit where their health shield is not visible?

These are not too hard questions, I hope, but they are extremely necessary for my scenario.

BTW, this is a mult-part scenario and it is Scenario I of a series I am thinking about which will inlcude this scenario, the Industrial Revolution, a possible Napoleonic Wars scenario, and maybe more.

Thank you for your assistance,

George "Polaris" Lyles

Polaris, another humble question:

Is there any reason for the title of your scenario being in French? I cannot think of any good reason myself.

Because it likes to be French.

Seriously, because France was a rather large imperial power on the dates I am doing.

Polaris,

Sorry to bother you again with another of my unecessary remarks, but the reason you gave me seems a bit arbitrary... Between 1492 and 1792 the largest imperial powers were Spain, Portugal and Britain. But hey, if it likes to be French ...

Ever heard of something called the Napoleonic Wars?

Enough said...

Many people associate imperialism and colonization with France, for some odd reason.

Polaris,

Shield placement is determined by the blue pixels on the top and left hand edges of the unit graphic - as such;

(1) It's a question of simply getting the shape of the shield and placing your flag image (whatever you choose to cover the shield with) as part of your unit's graphic. The unit will always cover the shield where it's not transparent.
(2) You can either put the shield at the most right hand and lowest pixels in the image (i.e. place the blue dots at the bottom and most right hand side of the unit image), or ensure that the unit image covers where you put your shield (a.k.a. 'shield concealment') - see http://sleague.apolyton.net/Reviews/...hot/gang_4.gif as an example of almost total shield concealment.

Cam,

Always wondered what those blue dots were...

Thanks again, for your help, Cam.

Haha! Probably would do that if I was going fast, but it won't happen...so I think.

damn Frenchies...I still say English because most people who play Civ2 play in English and because they were a bigger colonial power. And besides, no one likes the French!

Or did you just want it in French to draw attention and be different...yeah...I think that's why...slick...

Well, France had New France (large territory, few people) and parts of India. They also obtained huge chunks of Africa in the 1800s.
