I would just like to say that I do not like the "builder" and "warmonger" teams idea. If I'm given a game and asked to play 10-20 turns to the best of my ability, I would prefer not being under any restrictions concerning what I should and should not do.

I know this is all for fun, but we're also trying to teach good strategy here, and committing yourself to either a Builder or Warmonger approach is not very strategic/adaptive.

End troll rant. Let's have fun.

Now.

The problem with these rules is that some players will never get their turns played on and so will have no effect on what follows.

I don't like the builder/warmongerer distinctions either. Perhaps a better way would be to set a victory goal for each team. For example, earliest possible domination, or fast spaceship launch.

I'm something of a hybrid between the two styles myself and I like to adapt my style to the situation and difficulty level. But the reason I thought it might be a good idea for the two "styles" of teams was to provide an example of both coming from the same game.

One more thing up for discussion though. After another day or two of discussions and thoughts I'll post some threads and polls to finish deciding the dynamics of the game.

Crosspost with alexman. That's another good idea to consider. It would effectively maintain my point about seeking different goals from the same game while avoiding the builder/warmonger typecasts.

Can we set a tentative date of Friday to begin this thing? Everyone works better under the pressure of a deadline...

Nor Me is correct. We need to figure out some way of ensuring the same players are not always selected as the "best" for a given block (we would always be playing alexman's game!). Perhaps we could make it a hard rule that any one player's game cannot "win" two blocks in a row.

That might work. I was just trying to think of something to solve that very problem.

Friday sounds good to me. I should probably be able to have the scenario ready to play by then. I'm going to set up a poll right now about "how" to play the game.

Thanks for the compliment, but you know that's very far from the truth.

Good to see that Arrian's Gimini Cricket (MS, that is) is getting an audience with him.
A waste of time and energy probably, but in this job you also get medals just for trying...
