Are we having SCENARIOS lately?
I wonder if there is a soul out there in the SLeague community who hasn't played Red Front yet. There seems to be no other topic that anyone can talk about (OK, 2194 Days of War). I wonder if there is a sense in making any other scenario! I'm rubbing my ass of here, trying to turn that shapeless thing of mine that I call "Darius 2.2" into a scenario, but I wonder if there is at all a sense in finishing it, since everybody only plays "Red Front" and other WW2 scenarios.
Not saying that RF is bad, no, it's terrific, but I wonder if anyone is interested in other scenarios?

Then play "Civil War in San Lorenzo"

We have, count 'em, *13* new scenarios awaiting reviews. I've played a bit of two of them (Ice Realms, which was good, and Civil War in San Lorenzo, which was also decent). Haven't done more than start up the others to make sure they run.

I'm very interested in DARAOE or whatever it's called -- the Fall of Byzantium scenario. (Death and Ressurection of an Empire, I think it's called) Mathias Koster and Civfan put it together and it is pretty fun so far. I am playing as the Ottomans.

Too busy building -(Censored)- to play any scenarios right now. But I love all scenarios that are well made. Keep up the good work.

None of the recent scenarios are of the kind I like.

P.S. I've only played through the first summer of RF and then decided that nothing was worth that kind of micromanagement.

Keep on building them. It just so happens that my favorite time period is WWII. I don't know about the other cats that are up in SLeague forums, but for me RedFront is a godsend. It's not only about my favotite era, it's also one of the best, no, the best scenario out there.

But I'm always downloading other ones, but I don't talk about 'em because I'm all up in RedFront.

I have a 70mb ww2 scenario for ToT that needs to be uploaded. Anyone willing to host? Other than that, I've run into a major bug for my next scenario (see tot forum) but nobody is offering much help.

Ancient scenario's are my favorite games to play. With so many games marketed for this time period, there should be more people out there who likes them to.

I like ancient scenarios - keep 'em coming.

(it's not that I don't like RF, it's just hat trying to tell the difference between a TKV-18pq vs a T345.7 88m doesn't really do it for me)

Yeah, Härtel, you're right. Everyone's talking about RedFront. I for myself downloaded RedFront 1.4, but i don't play it because I don't have any plan for what's going on there. Always I finish my turn, the Germans (or "jerries", as we're called by Americans) take so much time for their next turn, that I loose all interest for further playing on. Additional all the stories I hear about the later years (the Germans have about 200 (!!!) units in Rostov when one wants to take it back ???)...

Anyway, I for myself have been working on some scenarios, but I lost all interest in finishing them and so they're deeply hidden on my HD, unfinished, forgotten...
They deal with historical situations like the 19th century, the 17th/18th century and the rise of the Roman Empire.
But after I recognized the perfection of the up-to-date scenarios (e.g. RedFront 1.4), I'm that discouraged that I won't even finish my DOOM-scenario...and it couls have become such a nice one...

Yeah, the micro management is really gonna kill you in RF. I turned off almost all city report options. Also I renamed a bunch of cities (added 1 in front of them to group them together). Those were cities I decided not to put any money in (they were too far away from the front). Also I went through all 90 some cities 4 times and saved after each run. (First run: sell improvements; second: assign specialists; third, activate/fortify units; fourth: disband/rush build units). Even though I still made mistakes like built an AA battery when a freighter was needed.

This is not Captain's fault. We should blame Sid

You really notice the speed of the AI turn when you hop between a 550 MHz Athlon and a P133 MHz Intel.

The Germans are about 4x faster on the Athlon, so is all the movement, for that matter.

I will try to make Red Front more manageable in the next version... I don't know about getting rid of the micromanagement but reducing the number of units a bit and changing the Lend-Lease convoy management should help...
As to the WWII unit names (PzKw IV Ausf G, T-34/85 or Su-152) I think it is what makes the true military history buffs like it... but I admit it's not that appealing to the non-initiated.
Hopefully there will be scenarios like Artaxes(?), Spartacus, Alba de America, Mongols and RedFront made to suit all tastes... I will pass on the fantasy stuff personally but anything historical, you have my vote.

I don't think it matters what time period a scenario's from, just whether it's fun and enjoyabble to play!

Captain Nemo: You can provide two versions of RF, one use real names for the tanks, another use fansy names.

You mean: "Nasty old German tank", "ugly Soviet junkheap", "kick-butt Tank destroyer", "little british sardine can". Hmmm... I don't know about this one...

I actually had a very fun idea: Make a scenario about a historical subject as a team of 2 designers.

First phase make a map, draw units, collect historical data.
Phase two, each designer takes the pieces and builds a scenario (events, rules, customized features) seen from the opposite side of the field. The goal is to make it really challenging and try to introduce a lot of custom touches for play from one side (Like Red Front uses rubles, Kollektivs, Politbureaus, Komrade, modified dialog etc...)
Phase three, testplay the other designer's scenario.
Phase four, Release a two-pack scenario

Making a scenario that is optimized for play from all sides is basically a lost cause, but this would work: two scenarios, same historical context, same units (More or less) and same goals (Of course reversed)Half the work and twice the fun, not to mention the fun of trying build an AI that can outsmart the other side.

Captain Nemo: If you really want to rail the scenario to be historically accurate, you can follow the Spartacus scenario -- give quests. Except for summer 1941, in every season the player must kill certain 'special' units or occupy certain cities to trigger clues for the next quest. On the other hand certain cities cannot be occupied till certain season.

Making a scenario that is optimized for play from all sides is basically a lost cause

Make it balanced and ignore people like Xin Yu who beat it in 2 turns.
