SCSI drives are still too much money, and lack the capacity of SATA drives.

The ASUS A8V has dual RAID controllers (Via, Promise), so it's possible to build a RAID 0+1, but I don't need it that badly.

The big thing was capacity though: this machine doubles as my PVR with Snapstream's Personal Video Station software, and I need lots of HD space.

Well it gets 51,940 AquaMarks in AquaMark 3.0. 3DMark03 crashes on load right now so I need to work with that.

Aren't you the one that thinks the iMacs look good (either new or old)? I presume you also think the G5s look good.

The iPod looks good, I'll give you that one, but most of Apple's style is ugly and overrated. The new G5s take the cake for hideousness.

BTW, not only is this rig far quieter, far faster, and better looking than the new dual G5s -- it's also considerably cheaper.

The Dual G5s are an incredible $4200CDN (I paid $2700).

God damn, how can people buy that?

The G5 design is completely functional - the grill is there because it is needed, as are the handles. Your computer has some strange molding on the front that makes it look like a bad designer cabinet from the 60s.

I did a long time ago in another thread, this is about the fourth time you've made a crack about the appearance of my SO. Which tells me that you have issues, and that you need to move on and stop insulting people's SOs.

The grill is not needed, nor are the handles. I'll note that the Athlon 64s are hotter than the PowerPC 970s, and I don't have any grill at the front of my case making it look like some kind of toaster oven from a 1950s film on the "home of the future".

The "moulding" is an outter bevel to house the air filter (of which the G5 has none). It sucks in fresh air from the sides of that moulding, then filters it, then supplies it to the rest of the case. It is indeed quite functional, moreso than the cheaper route of poking holes in the front of your case and pretending it's stylish.

What's the best way of tiding up those wires, anyways? Mine are still bunched up like in your pic. (But I did take some consideration into where I bunched them up to allow air flow, of course)

It may be possible to remove much of the wires that you're not using (I've got a ton of extra ATA power cables). If that's not possible, it's best to use plastic tie things (or even twist-ties should work). Clump together nearby wires and duck them away in the sides of the case. I'm putting mine in by the empty drivebay to put it out of the way, in clumps tied with plastic ties.
