Annoying Sounds
Please can anyone tell me if it's possible to turn off the annoying tinkling sounds you hear when in any of the advisor screens

Any Help appreciated
Steve

You could try to locate the specific soundfile and replace it with something silent.

Eldaron, I had the very same problem (I absolutely hate the tingling sound). Here is how to get rid of it:

1) go to the \Civ3\Sounds folder
2) play the *.wav files there manually to locate those that annoy you (the most annoying tingling one is MorphText.wav)
3) rename the original (annoying) sound(s) to something else (like *.wav.bak)
4) replace the renamed sound file(s) with one(s) you do not mind - I used check.wav, but you can create a sound file from scratch, with nothing but silence)

There must be a file named MorphText.wav, which gets played so very often, but the game fortunately does not check if it is the original one or not - so if you replace it with something not that annoying, you will be fine.

Dont mind the sounds, but hate the music. And having just checked, I can replace the music files! That'll be Civ3 to the tune of everything from U2 to Marilyn Manson then!

That's a great idea, are they listed in the editable text files anywhere are could it be possible to place them in a scenario folder and over ride the originals.

This way you could make themed music for your scenarios.

I forget exactly how (its late and im tired ). Open up the Civ3 folder in windows, go to sounds folder, and its somewhere in there. Not sure if you have to rename your MP3's to get the game to recognise them, guess theres only one way to find out...

i tried this. in sounds\build\ancient

make a backup of the folder
there are many wav files and 5 mp3
i copied another mp3 in there and made 4 copies renaming them to the original names
then i played.
for awhile there was nothing but the wav files, you know drums.
then, a strange blend as one of the mp3 kicked off while a wav was still playing. finally, nothing but the mp3.

building an empire while listening to "boogie with stu" is, well... it affects play style.

Uhm, why not just uncheck "play music" then run your favorite MP3s or internet radio in a background app? That's what I always do, and it doesn't involve editing things.

Speaking of music, I really don't miss the music from Civ II; that was highly derivative of that one Final Fantasy game, don't you think?
