Nice work, Julius. Now you see why I captured all those English cities in the last year of my turn; I kind of suspected I wouldn't get another chance. And I wanted the glory

Thoddy, when I was taking my turns they were running about an hour each at the beginning, less time once I figured out what I wanted to do (mostly moving Magogs, food Freights, and Mupbu).

Thoddy, my turns lasted more than 1 hour each. I made a lot of move and a lot of waiting, always capturing cities, for example, with my most damaged magog (goes straight back to full strenght)
STYOM, you might be the true hero if no else steps up and otherwise, why don't you load the game and finish it for your own pleasure
Yes, after your turns, the english were a piece of cake

Yes, that was me who downloaded your save the one time it has been downloaded, Julius.

Are we waiting on Marcel? Because I know he disappeared from the Sci-Fi succession game on TOT forum. Of course it has only been 2 days since your save though

And, thank you for the offer, but I think one of the long time players of this succession game should have the honour of finishing it. Both Julius and Thoddy have been playing this game for much longer than me (only 2 turns) so I defer to one of you, who stuck with this game through all the hopeless bits

*bump*

I believe I'm supposed to be next after Marcel I. If he really isn't here anymore I could go now. Probably only by next weekend or so, though, so if anyone pops in before then I don't mind.

Yes, Mercator, go ahead this weekend
Don't forget to put the stats before killing a civ or at least leave us a saved game to count it. We're going to make it in the record book

And the log:

2051: Capua leveled, English destroyed. Turin (Russian), Cremona, Cartagena, Malaga, Pamplona captured. Onochi founded.
2052: Spanish nuke Cartagena and recapture Cartagena and Pamplona.
We recapture Cartagena and Pamplona, capture Burgos and destroy Lisbon (Russian).
2053: We capture Leon, Salamanca, Valladolid and Granada, and destroy Salamis.
2054: Spanish nuke Valladolid, and liberate Valladolid, Leon and Salamanca. Spanish acquire Boht Comaree from us.
I capture Kalinin... The Russians are no more. We liberate Leon, Salamanca and Valladolid.
This'll probably be going back and forth for the next few turns, until the massive Magog force from Central America arrives (100+ magogs! ). I imagine I'll be able to take at least some 2/3 of all Spanish cities the turn that happens.
2055: Leon rebels and rejoins the Spanish. Valladolid recaptured. And I recapture Valladolid and Leon. I also capture Cordoba (with the Manhattan Project), Milan and Naples.
2056: Cordoba and Naples recaptured by the Spanish. I liberate Naples and Cordoba, level Salamanca (newly founded city on Centaurus), and capture Toledo.
2057: Global warming feared (yet again! ), the Spanish don't manage to retake any cities for a change... And Houston got an army of about 120 Magogs ready to go!
I've captured all Spanish cities, except Valencia (on Centaurus). There are several Magogs on its way there.
2058: The Spanish pillaged some roads!!
My Magogs drag themselves through No-man's Land to get near Valencia.
2059: The last Spanish city is destroyed... We are victorious!

I've attached the savegame from after the last capture...

Nice one

And, I'm pretty sure the casualty stats max at 255... as opposed to wrapping around. American partisan losses had to be well over 255.

Here's another record which may be a dubious one... 447 days to play 459 turns.

Players: Only 12 (I was sure that there were more) - is that a record?

Julius
Sandmonkey
Roman
Zulu Elephant
Lord LMP
Thoddy
MalignantX
Rufus T Firefly
Thoth
Marcel I
STYOM
Mercator

(cast listed in order of appearance)

Kudos to Julius B. who was patient through all the long months when nobody was playing this at all!

The pocket nuke won the Invasion Planet Earth.

After taking a little beachhead on Earth the AI wasnt able to use their economic potentail and their huge number of units and cities at the beginning to counterstrike the alien invasion.

Hope nobody will use this strategy in reality.

Well, anybody can play the last bit by themselves of course (and perhaps even post it here too)...

In case that happens, open one of the near end savegames, switch the player to one of the human civs, try to win, and mail your strategy ASAP to president@whitehouse.gov.

Waov, it feels good to see this one finished
Yes, it took "some" time
And many players were involved
And I'd never seen such casualties
We made a bad start, but thanks to the Ai poor defense of earth and some shameless nuking we were able to turn things around

no bribes, no nukes and
magogs (at least the strongest units (air and land))are not allowed for human player.

compensate large scale effects-house rules.
Only despotism/monarchy allowed for human player. (If the human player owns more cities than the best AI civ he had to change to despotism).
Only a few attacking units for the human player, until 100 AI cities only 20 human attacking units allowed or so.

But this will not solve the main problem; the bad AI vs. experienced players. The game will only last longer, because its more time consuming, if fighting with weaker/less units.

I finally have MGE/FW So I would be up for almost any game provided I can find the scenario on-line.

I'm doing the one thing I always promised I would do after upgrading: playing Red Front That might make a good succession game. And if you want a challenge we could play as the Swedes

RF is a good idea. But the scen is not designed to play as the Swedes.
The german AI will overrun the AI-USSR within a few turns. The interesting features would be lost in this way.

I have some sugestions for the rules: dont found cities on fortifications,
dont move fortifications,
dont rehome fortifications.
In this way the human player gets a lot more trouble.
STYOM would you open a new thread.

Well another succession game is starting.
I like the idea of red front. I don't have the scenario yet either.
I propose we start it later.

Hey Thoddy - I thought that RF had given plenty of problems to even the top players before it was 'sussed' and I for one have not read the 'walkthroughs' - do we really need to toughen it up??

I'm getting my a** handed to me by Red Front currently; that's why I didn't start a game. No point starting a game and making a lot of dumb mistakes. I like the idea of playing RF once I know what I'm doing. No, I don't think it need be any tougher - I'm a shaky Deity player anyway!

In this case the german Blitzkrieg stops at the line Riga, Smolensk, Kiew Odessa, if I begin the game.

Sounds good, except that right now, it's not that I'm trying to compete against the AI in RF, I'm trying to determine which to use of my Red Army/T-26 tanks/Partisans units to defend with (if any)! In other words, playing with me right now would be be like playing 2.42 with someone who thought chariots were better defenders than pikemen

But give me a bit of time to play it a couple of times, and I'm in, Thoddy. Maybe when Julius has the scenario, one of you two could start and I could jump in?
